Job Description

Medical Director, Oak Tree Program

BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre

Regular Part-Time – 0.30 FTE (1.5 Days per Week)

Vancouver, British Columbia Canada

Are you an enthusiastic leader who is passionate about innovation and clinical excellence?

BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is seeking a Medical Director to lead the Oak Tree Program – a long-standing and exemplary interdisciplinary Infectious Diseases program serving women and non-binary persons, and their children within a mandate of clinical excellence, research and academic aims.

Reporting to the Senior Medical Director, Gynecology and Specialized Services, the Medical Director will lead the Oak Tree Clinic in addressing a broad range of infectious diseases affecting the populations of focus. Demonstrated experience in and dedication to fostering innovation and models of care that reflect patient-centered, culturally safe and trauma-informed care is a requirement of this leadership role. The Medical Director will play a key role in leading systems and enriching a culture that promotes continuous improvement and pursuit of program excellence, applying current research evidence and best practice standards. In a collaborative operational dyad leadership model, the Medical Director will partner with the Operations Leader to set and address program priorities in alignment with organizational objectives and mandates. As part of the Provincial Health Services Authority, the Medical Director will also contribute to regional and provincial aims with opportunities for research and knowledge translation initiatives.

In addition to overseeing program clinical operations and quality improvement, the Medical Director will also remain a practicing physician and participate in the interdisciplinary development of clinical practice standards as part of the organizational processes. Strong communication and facilitation skills are paramount, alongside an enthusiasm for support of education and research. Leading by example, the Medical Director will support and model a safe, respectful and healthy workplace culture that upholds inter-professional collaboration and organizational values and commitments.

Along with specialty training in a relevant area of Infectious Diseases, the candidate should be registered with or eligible for registration with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia. Demonstrated research, leadership and/or administrative experience would be highly beneficial. The ideal candidate will have or be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia.

We invite you to become one of our recognized clinical leaders and excel in this rewarding leadership role that aims to drive the Oak Tree Program progressively forward in response to the evolving needs of our patient populations.

Expressions of interest, applications and nominations should be submitted in confidence to: Health Match BC

About Provincial Health Services Authority

The Oak Tree Clinic is a leader in providing specialized clinical care to women, children and their families living with HIV, Reproductive Infectious Disease, and Congenital Infectious Disease. The clinic is part of BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre (BCW), which is dedicated to improving the health of women, newborns and families through a comprehensive range of services, research and education.

BCW is part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA).

PHSA plans, manages and evaluates specialized health services with the BC health authorities to provide equitable and cost-effective health care for people throughout the province. Our values reflect our commitment to excellence and include: Respect people – Be compassionate – Dare to innovate – Cultivate partnerships – Serve with purpose.

PHSA and BCW are committed to employment equity, encouraging all qualified individuals to apply. We recognize that our ability to provide the best care for our diverse patient populations relies on a rich diversity of skills, knowledge, background and experience, and value a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.

Reconciliation is an ongoing process and a shared responsibility for all of us. The BC Governments’ unanimous passage of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act was a significant step forward in this journey—one that all health authorities are expected to support as we work in cooperation with Indigenous Peoples to establish a clear and sustainable path to lasting reconciliation. True reconciliation will take time and ongoing commitment to work with Indigenous Peoples as they move toward self-determination. Guiding these efforts Crown agencies must remain focused on creating opportunities that implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Mandate.
