Seeking a Physician with palliative care experience to support the Rose Garden Hospice.
Rose Garden Hospice is a not-for-profit organization that is committed to providing compassionate, holistic care to people with terminal illnesses and their loved ones. The Rose Garden Hospice is a dedicated team of caring volunteers and committed staff. The hospice will address the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of people approaching death and provide support to family and close friends. It will offer expert pain and symptom management so that physical suffering is relieved.
There are ten self-contained ‘guest’ rooms and two self-contained family rooms so family members can get some rest while staying near their loved one.
There is professional nursing care 24 hours a day. Personal support, companionship, bereavement, and spiritual support are integrated in a home-like setting.
Details of Physician Employment:
1.The physician will be the designated most responsible Physician (MRP) for all patients at the hospice (unless they are followed by a family physician). In this role the Physician will be expected to support 1 or 2 weeks of care which includes bedside rounding every 1-2 days as needed as well as 24/7 support for the week(s) they are on duty. They will be expected to assist with referral triage, intake interviews, and admissions.
2.Provide care to all guests admitted to hospice as part of scheduled Palliative Physician Rota.
3.Provide Palliative care services for days contracted, as well as weekends and statutory holidays, plus after hours while on call.
4.Provide call coverage, the responsibilities of which will be arranged equitably and collaboratively amongst the physician and other physician members of the palliative care service. If at any time the physician is unable to fulfill the on -call requirements it is the physician’s responsibility to find a replacement.
5.Expectation that the physician will visit the Rose Garden Hospice at minimum three times a week to provide direct patient care and always be available for phone support to the nursing staff while on service.
6.While in service, physician must be able to attend the Rose Garden Hospice in a timely manner in the event of an emergency.
7.While in service the physician may be asked to assist with referral review, triaging, and consults prior to admission with the patient and family. The physician will assist in the process of transferring a patient to Rose Garden Hospice.
8.The physician will become proficient in using InfoAnywhere EMR and maintain documentation that meets provincial standards and expectations.
9.Provide care to the guests at the hospice that meets expected standards for palliative care. The physician will be proficient in assessing and, managing common palliative care symptoms and be able to support the guests and their family while receiving care at Rose Garden Hospice.
10.Provide medical direction and leadership as required to Nurses, CCA’s, Hospitality staff and other members of the multi- disciplinary team regarding the management of patient’s end -of-life decisions, and other palliative care concerns.
11.The physician will enter notes and orders in a timely manner. Ensure appropriate documentation including history and physical examinations, management plans, orders and consultations on all patients seen by the physicians.
12.Provide medical input to develop, review and revise Rose Garden Hospice procedures and protocols applicable to the palliative care services program. Participate in data collection and other quality improvement activities and program development and accreditation.
13.Mentor other physicians providing palliative care services to assist them in meeting generally accepted standards of medical care for palliative care patients and in practicing and /or providing leadership in the context of a multi-disciplinary team.
14.Strengthen community support and awareness of palliative care services by educating other physicians, team members (including volunteers), patients, family members and the community.
15.As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, share the responsibility for educating other team members about the effective medical interventions for managing palliative symptoms.
16.Educate patients and families about disease processes, prognosis, treatment options and the goals of palliative care. Education is provided directly while visiting patients as primary physicians or as a palliative care consultant, or (indirectly) through staff education and developing education materials.
17.Attend selected family conferences and be available to mentor other members of the palliative health care team. Respond to patient-related questions from the team members, family physicians and the specialists and facilitate communications between providers at different sites as patients make the transitions through health care system.
18.Attend and participate in meetings as applicable.
19.Maintain continuing education in palliative care to remain up to date on latest management guidelines.
20.Submit monthly invoices in a timely manner.

Qualifications:
A Regular Saskatchewan Medical License, Canadian residency status, and eligibility for membership on the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) Practitioner Staff.
