Department of Family Medicine

Queen’s Health Sciences

 

Position Overview                        

The Department of Family Medicine at Queen’s University invites applications for a Clinical Academic Family Physician with a focus on obstetrics. This role and the successful incumbent will have experience in low risk primary care obstetrics, including prenatal care, intrapartum care as part of a family medicine obstetrics call group at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, and postpartum care. This position is to fill an existing vacancy within the University.

 The successful incumbent will be positioned within the Queen’s Family Health Organization (FHO). Outpatient clinical responsibilities will be based within the Queen’s Family Health Team (QFHT). 

 We are seeking innovative physician educators with experience and interest in women’s health and obstetrics to help shape our department

 We are an award-winning Family Medicine Residency Program: two-time winner of the PARO Residency Program Excellence Award.  

 The successful incumbent will be expected to:

·        Manage a roster of patients.

·        Family Medicine & Primary Care- Comprehensive care for patients of all ages, including preventive health and chronic disease management.

·        Obstetrics & Gynecology – Prenatal care, labor and delivery management, postpartum care, and women’s health services

·        Collaborative Care – Working effectively with nurses, midwives, obstetricians and other specialists. 

·        Participate in both family medicine and obstetric call groups which includes after hours clinical services, urgent care family medicine, 24h obstetrical call shifts, and weekend call shifts with frequency being dependent upon the size of the group

·        Academic Activities - Mentor, supervise, and assess medical residents and students.

o  Serve as a Postgraduate preceptor for 2-4 residents full time (8-9 per year).

o  Commit to educational teaching for postgraduate residents and undergraduate learners.  

o  Participate in a variety of educational activities.

o  Build relationships with undergraduate medical learners as preceptors, teachers in large and small group settings, and within learner wellness and careers. In addition, there are a lot of opportunities for educational leadership.

o  Join in the academic and administrative life of the department, PG Program, MD program, and the University.   

 

·        Demonstrate procedural and surgical skills

·        Engage in faculty development sessions and continuing medical education.

·        Participate in Research Day activities

·        Participate in quality improvement initiatives.

·        Research Excellence in Family Medicine is considered an asset.

Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and be registered at the College of Family Physicians Canada.
