Overview
Family physicians are invited to apply for a unique opportunity at Markham Family Medicine Teaching Unit (Health for All Family Health Team). This position qualifies for a FHO spot, and includes a small established practice. In addition you will recruit patients from Markham, one of the fastest growing municipalities in Ontario.
As a Clinician-Teacher with Markham Family Medicine Teaching Unit Family Health Organization (MFMTU FHO), you will manage the care of a roster of directly and through the supervision of a resident physician. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with various allied health professionals within the Health for All Family Health Team (HFA FHT). Physicians in MFMTU have broad clinical and academic interests including obstetrics, women’s health, minor office procedures, palliative care, geriatric care, hospitalist, health equity and social accountability, quality improvement, patient safety and research. Mentorship will be available in any of these areas of interest.
The allocation of duties is as follows:
· CLINICAL WORK: Average 5 half days in clinical practice providing comprehensive care to family medicine patients, and participation in the clinic’s urgent care/after-hours call rotation during evenings and weekends.
· ACADEMIC WORK: Minimum of 1 half day in academia for supervision of residents. Extra half days may include teaching medical students, curriculum work, mentorship, assessment, research and other duties as assigned in the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum.
· ADMINISTRATIVE AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Minimum of 1 half day for participation in leadership within the FHO/FHT/FMTU or development of clinical programs within the FHT and Eastern York and Northern Durham OHT.
Appointment
This position requires appointment to the Medical Staff Association of Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) as well as the Faculty of the Department of Family & Community Medicine, University of Toronto. Both can be obtained after start date.
Qualifications & Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
· Successfully completed a two-year postgraduate residency program accredited by The College of Family Physicians of Canada (or the equivalent thereof)
· Demonstrated clinical excellence in patient care
· An interest and commitment to teaching, research and quality improvement and leadership
· Demonstrated leadership skills in team management, program development and growth
· Demonstrated skills in excellent communication and collaboration
· A practice interest in areas such as Obstetrics, Minor procedures and Women’s health are an asset.
The Clinician-Teacher must be licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and have Certification with The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP). The candidate must verify good standing with both Colleges.
Start period: June/July 2026
References
Candidates must provide three references: one from each of a clinical practice setting, teaching / academic setting and leadership / administrative role if available. References are preferred where these roles overlap.
