Job Description

Clinical General Pediatrician

The University of Manitoba (UM), located in the multi-cultural and vibrant city of Winnipeg, is the province of Manitoba’s primary research-intensive academic institution, and offers over 100 degree, diploma and certificate programs to more than 30,000 students from around the world.

The Department of Pediatrics and Child Health is comprised of more than 100 full-time physicians representing all Pediatric Subspecialties and includes 8 full time PhD Scientists and over 150 other affiliated Faculty and Medical Staff Members. The Department of Pediatrics & Child Health and the Shared Health Child Health Program collaborate closely with the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba to improve the health and care for children in the province. The Section of Social, Northern and Ambulatory Pediatrics is highly regarded for excellence in patient care, and medical education with a focus on care to marginalized populations.  Outreach and social pediatrics are integral parts of the program that has a strong reputation for inter-disciplinary collaboration and patient-centered care.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to join a team of general pediatricians and adolescent medicine specialists with a strong academic focus who provide clinical service at several sites. The referral base includes children from the province of Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and Western Nunavut. Outreach clinics are an important component of the Section’s activities.

Candidates must have specialty qualifications in pediatrics in the country of current practice and must be eligible for specialty registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.  Certification in pediatrics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred.  The applicant will be expected to participate in the educational programs for undergraduate medical students and postgraduate pediatric residents. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is required and a commitment to collaborating with others in research and other scholarly endeavors is strongly encouraged.   Evidence of a high standard of professionalism is essential.

The University of Manitoba and Shared Health are strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from women, racialized persons/persons of colour, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, persons of all sexual orientations and genders, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.

Application materials will be handled in accordance with the protection of privacy provision of "The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy" (Manitoba).
