Job Description

ACADEMIC GERIATRICIAN

Department of Medicine, McMaster University

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences invite applications for an Academic Geriatrician (Research Educator).

This is a full-time faculty position for a period of three years (renewable). Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The position offers benefits, and remuneration will be commensurate with academic rank and position duties and responsibilities. The anticipated start date of the position is January 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will have strong collaborative skills and enthusiasm to further advance the clinical and academic success of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Department of Medicine. Commitment to education at all levels, and teaching excellence is essential. The ideal candidate will bring a growth mindset, a passion for meaningful contribution to our mission, and goals that will support successful promotion within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Division of Geriatric Medicine is made up of 13 geographic full-time faculty based within the Hamilton, Niagara, and Waterloo campuses, and 25+ affiliated part-time faculty members. The successful candidate will provide care at Hamilton Health Sciences, which includes the Juravinski, Hamilton General, and St Peter’s Hospitals. Clinical work will include inpatient consultation in acute care, orthogeriatric and geriatric rehabilitation settings.

The ideal candidate will be a geriatrician with a passion for discovery and knowledge translation to improve care delivery and policy. A PhD will be considered an asset. Research will occur with key collaboratives such as the Geras Centre for Aging Research.

The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Faculty and Division. The successful candidate should have appropriate fellowship training and will be expected to fully participate in all appropriate departmental and divisional educational activities.

Applicants should be certified in Geriatric Medicine (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or an equivalent designation) and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario.
