Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS)
BCHS is a two-site hospital system located in southwestern Ontario. It is comprised of the Brantford General Hospital and the Willett Urgent Care Centre in Paris. Serving a growing diverse population that include a large Indigenous community, our professional staff, staff and volunteers deliver exceptional primary and secondary acute care, rehab, complex continuing care, palliative care, health promotion and mental health services to the community.
With over 51,000 ER visits, 31,000 urgent care visits, 50,000 outpatient clinic visits, 1,500 births, and over 330 beds between the two sites, BCHS is the region’s acute healthcare system. In addition to the over 2,300 staff, professional staff and volunteers at the site, BCHS hosts hundreds of learners each year as an affiliated teaching site of the McMaster University Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, know as the Grand Erie Six Nations Clinical Education Campus.
Key Accountabilities
Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Vice-President, Medical and Academic Affairs, the Chief and Medical Director of the Department of Mental Health & Addictions is responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical operations within the department including both inpatient and outpatient mental health services. In doing so, the Chief and Medical Director will be responsible for all aspects of medical practice within the department including quality, utilization and patient experience.
In partnership with hospital leadership and the Clinical Director ED, Critical Care, Mental Health, SADV & Dialysis. the Chief and Medical Director will lead the Department in ensuring appropriate physician manpower planning, annual credentialing of professional staff, adoption of leading practices within the service, governance, continued education and training of professional staff, achievement of key performance metrics, along with the creation of a safe and healthy workplace for all program professional staff, staff and volunteers.
As Chief and Medical Director, the incumbent will ensure growth, development, efficiency and best practice for the Department of Mental Health & Addictions. The Chief and Medical Director will liaise with other department leaders and chiefs for interdepartmental cohesiveness and will continue the focus on community access to timely mental health services. Additionally, they will actively attend and represent Mental Health & Addictions at the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), Quality Steering Committee, MH/Finance Program Meetings, Brantford Brant Norfolk OHT Meetings, Addictions System Advisory Meetings, Rapid Access Addictions Medicine (RAAM) Meetings, and other administrative initiatives.
As Chief and Medical Director, the incumbent will ensure growth, development, efficiency, and best practice for the Department of Mental Health and Addictions.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate must be an MD with an FRCP fellowship in Psychiatry and be licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). They should have a minimum of five years experience practicing Psychiatry, with leadership experience in a healthcare setting. They should have a proven record managing interdepartmental projects, engaging professional staff, leading change management initiatives, and supporting department standardization projects. Candidates with formal leadership training preferred.
