Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist – Pediatric Chronic Pain Program Locum
Introduction:
Hamilton Health Sciences, is inviting applications for the part-time locum position of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at McMaster Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Chronic Pain Program. The successful applicant will join the staff at Hamilton’s McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH), one of Canada’s largest pediatric academic tertiary care teaching hospitals, and fully affiliated teaching hospital with McMaster University.
Department and Program Overview:
The Pediatric Chronic Pain Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital is a multidisciplinary and interdepartmental program that involves the collaboration of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Adolescent Medicine, and Pediatric Anesthesiology. The successful candidate will join the current McMaster complement of psychologists, occupational therapists, child life specialists and pediatricians who provide care to patients and families in the Pediatric Chronic Pain Program.
McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) is a globally renowned pediatric hospital dedicated to children’s health delivering excellence in clinical care, child health research and education. It is home to some of the country’s most respected pediatric care programs, including Canada’s largest NICU and the largest prosthetic and orthotics facility of its kind. MCH also houses one of Ontario’s fastest-growing pediatric emergency department and largest inpatient child and youth mental health unit, and more. MCH is undergoing the most significant expansion in its history, fueled by a landmark provincial investment to expand critical services, add top-tier clinicians, and improve access to cutting-edge pediatric care for families across Ontario.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold an MD and will have advanced training and experience in child psychiatry.
Particular interest and expertise in assessment and management of pediatric patients with chronic pain is an asset.
Experience with evidence-based assessment instruments and rating scales is needed and a commitment to multidisciplinary clinical assessment and evidence-based treatment models is essential. The candidate will work as part of an inter-professional inpatient mental health team with a focus on treatment of complex, co-morbid, and severe mental illness in children and youth.
Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario and hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons specialty certification in psychiatry or an equivalent designation.
Letters of reference are not required and will not be reviewed at the application stage; letters of recommendation from referees will be requested at later stages of the search process.
