About St. Joseph’s Health Centre
St. Joseph's Health Centre (SJHC) is a 382-bed accredited Catholic community teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto, serving half a million people living in Toronto's west end communities. St. Joseph’s is part of Unity Health Toronto which is comprised of Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, St. Michael’s Hospital and added satellite sites. At Unity Health Toronto our vision is to deliver “The best care experiences. Created together.” Our health network serves patients, residents and clients across the full spectrum of care, spanning primary care, secondary community care, tertiary and quaternary care services to post-acute through rehabilitation, palliative care and long-term care, while investing in world-class research and education.
The Mental Health and Addictions Program at St. Joseph’s Health Centre
St. Joseph’s delivers a comprehensive mental health and addictions program that provides services spanning the life cycle. The department has a 35-bed adult inpatient unit including a 6 bed psychiatric intensive care unit; a 6 bed adult short stay unit; an 8 bed Child and Adolescent inpatient unit, and day hospital programs in both the child/adolescent and adult settings. Our ambulatory services include a spectrum of outpatient clinics and an ACT Team.
The Child and Adolescent Program at St. Joseph’s Health Centre was one of the first community hospital based programs in Toronto. In serving the West-end Community of Toronto, it has established its role in providing acute mental health care for children and adolescents. Our program currently includes 4 full-time child and adolescent psychiatrists. Typically, psychiatrists rotate across the span of services including covering the inpatient unit, providing urgent care appointments, general outpatient clinic and day program. Psychiatrists share all of the responsibilities of the program, either simultaneously or in rotation. The psychiatrist recruited will allow us to address impending psychiatrist transitions as we continue to enhance our program and service delivery to children and families who reside in the West-end.
Position Description: Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, primarily in mixed inpatient and outpatient setting as follows:
1. 1.0 Full Time Equivalent
2. Provide weekly consultations in the Urgent Care Clinic

5. Where necessary, assist with after-care (i.e., time-limited post-discharge follow up)
6. Full participation in the Departmental call schedule
7. Other clinical opportunities as available
8. Participation in the academic mission which includes supervising medical learners and engaging in teaching responsibilities such as STACERS, teaching seminars and so forth
Remuneration: Remuneration includes a combination of OHIP billings, HOCC stipend for on call participation, a clinical stipend and educational funds for contributions to medical education and training. There are no overhead expenses.
Qualifications:
Ø Certification in Psychiatry with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and eligibility for sub-specialty licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or equivalent experience in focused child psychiatry practice
Ø Effective leadership skills, exemplary communication skills, demonstrated interpersonal skills
