Job Description

Alberta Health Services - North Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine, ESSOB physician to establish a full-time practice in the community of Whitecourt. This position will provide services in Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, High Risk Obstetrics, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, and Long-Term Care.

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of Whitecourt.
  • Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community.
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services.
  • Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including equal participation in the Emergency Department and Obstetrics call schedules, as required.
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine.
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.

Community Information

The original inhabitants call this beautiful area Sagitawah – “the place where the rivers meet.” Located on the eastern border of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Whitecourt is nestled in a valley at the confluence of four waterways. Today the Town of Whitecourt provides a wide variety of urban amenities and numerous recreational and leisure opportunities. It celebrated it s 50th anniversary in 1959.

The population of Whitecourt is 10,350 and its situated 180km northwest of Edmonton on Highway 43. Nestled an equally short 2-hour drive from the big city amenities or the mountains and Jasper National Park. 

Outdoor Park facilities in Whitecourt include the Festival Park, river slides, splash parks, a skate park, golf courses, a bike park and more. Whitecourt also boasts an impressive multi-use recreational facility, the Allan & Jean Millar Centre with a fieldhouse, aquatic centre, fitness centre, indoor playground, and much more. There are ice arena facilities in the town as well. Other outdoor activities in the area include: Fishing, Geocaching, Golfing, Hiking, River Boating, Tubing, Quadding, Motocross, Mountain Biking, Hunting, Snowmobiling, Ice Fishing, and Cross Country Skiing.
