Job Description

Shape the Future of Family Medicine!

Are you passionate about teaching, mentorship, and delivering high-quality, patient‑centred care? Do you want to make a lasting impact on the next generation of Family Physicians—while practicing within a collaborative, academic environment?

This is an exciting time for Academic Family Medicine in Calgary. The Department of Family Medicine (DFM)—a shared initiative between Primary Care Alberta (PCA), Alberta Health Services (AHS), and the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine—is pleased to invite applications for one permanent part-time Family Physician Preceptors (0.4 FTE) at the Central Family Medicine Teaching Centre, starting July 1, 2026.

Why This Role Matters

As a Family Physician Preceptor, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping future family physicians while maintaining your own clinical practice. You’ll combine meaningful teaching, longitudinal patient relationships, and team-based care within an innovative academic teaching clinic.

This role is ideal for physicians who thrive in collaborative environments and are energized by coaching learners, contributing to system improvement, and practicing comprehensive family medicine.

What You’ll Do:

You will balance clinical care with teaching, mentorship, and leadership within a supportive academic setting.

Clinical Care & Teaching

  • Provide comprehensive, continuity-based care to a defined patient panel within a Patient’s Medical Home model
  • Supervise, teach, and mentor medical students and family medicine residents
  • Serve as a Competency Coach, supporting learner development through feedback and assessment
  • Participate in scheduled evening clinics

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with an engaged interprofessional care team
  • Support the development of team-based care models, new workflows, and interprofessional education
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, scholarly activity, and clinical innovation
  • Model professionalism, accountability, and ethical practice for learners and colleagues

Academic & Departmental Engagement

  • Attend clinical operations, academic, and team meetings as available
  • Participate in educational development and interprofessional learning opportunities
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and respectful care

Our Commitment

DFM is deeply committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and representative workforce. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who bring diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and a passion for inclusive education and care.

Ready to Inspire the Next Generation?

Please submit:

  • A letter of application addressing teaching philosophy; scholarly, professional, and creative work; administrative service; research; and experience with interprofessional education
  • A detailed curriculum vitae
  • Three references with contact information
