General Surgeon – Trauma Care
Edmonton, Alberta
We are seeking a General Surgeon with Trauma Surgery training to join a collaborative and patient‑focused surgical team serving the Edmonton region. This position is primary to Misericordia Community Hospital, with clinical responsibilities across several Edmonton‑area acute care sites.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive general surgical care in a dynamic urban environment. The role includes elective routine general surgery, trauma coverage, and participation in an established on‑call schedule. The surgeon will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver elective and emergency general surgery services
- Provide trauma surgery coverage
- Participate in inpatient, outpatient, and operative care
- Share in the regional on‑call rotation
- Collaborate with anesthesiology, emergency medicine, critical care, and allied health colleagues
- Contribute to patient safety initiatives, quality improvement, and a culture of respect and accountability
Practice Environment
- Primary site: Misericordia Community Hospital
- Additional coverage at Edmonton‑area acute care sites
- Modern surgical facilities and diagnostic services
- Collegial, team‑based clinical culture
- Diverse and complex patient population
Qualifications
Required:
- MD or equivalent
- Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
- Certification in General Surgery with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
- Additional fellowship or subspecialty training in Trauma Surgery
- Demonstrated commitment to quality care, patient safety, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
- Understanding of Just Culture principles in healthcare
Qualifications
