Job Description
Recruitment for Full-Time Hospital-Based Internal Medicine Specialist (FRCPC General Internal Medicine)
Join the division of General Internal Medicine (Department of Medicine) at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario. Joseph Brant Hospital is a busy academic community teaching hospital midway between Toronto and Niagara, located on the scenic shore of Lake Ontario.
Our closely-knit General Internal Medicine team provides care for three inpatient medical patients units, including an integrated stroke unit, supported by a multidisciplinary team committed to service excellence. We have two internal medicine teams which work alongside the hospitalist program to provide inpatient care, with more than 4,000 inpatient admissions per year, totaling more than 30,000 patient days. Joseph Brant Hospital offers a perioperative service which provides support to surgical patients in the perioperative setting.
Our hospital has a 24 bed ICU with dialysis in the ICU, a Cancer Centre, excellent access to diagnostic imaging services, including CT, MRI and extended hours for ultrasound, and sub-specialty consultation services including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Haematology, Neurology, Respirology, Medical Oncology, Infectious Diseases, and Palliative Care.
Our innovative and rapidly expanding hospital-based outpatient practice provides care for over 6,000 patients a year. Our clinics led by general internists include:
● General Internal Medicine Rapid Assessment (GIMRAC) clinic supported by pharmacy and nursing
● Pre-Operative Medicine (POM) clinic for perioperative risk assessment and management
● Thrombosis Clinic (additional expertise required)
● Stroke Prevention Clinic (additional expertise required)
Alongside these GIM-led clinics, we work collaboratively with the Infectious Diseases Clinic and Heart Function Clinic to help prevent hospital admissions and ensure continuity of care after discharge from the hospital.
Joseph Brant Hospital is the site of the Burlington Clinical Education Campus affiliated with McMaster University. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute as a clinician-teacher at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level with learners participating in both inpatient and outpatient care.
There are many opportunities for ongoing local professional development including PSA Grand Rounds, Medicine Journal Club and Perioperative Journal Club as well as access to CME via the McMaster Continuing Health Sciences Education website.
Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (or equivalent) and registration with (or eligibility for) the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario are required. We can accommodate a summer start date and graduating residents are encouraged to apply.
Applications (CV and a letter of interest) will be accepted through the Medical Affairs Office at ***@josephbranthospital.ca (🔒 Premium).
