Hospital Medical Director – HMD (Rural NW Corridor) – Dr. Jobs Profile
Reporting to the Associate Corridor Medical Lead (ACML), the Hospital Medical Director (HMD) is a key leadership position for Alberta Health Services within the Northwest Corridor. The HMD is accountable for all physician-related matters, as well as collaborating with operations on strategic issues and decisions requiring physician input or leadership that arises within their hospital.
In a competent and professional manner, the HMD must possess a corridor-wide perspective and an approach to leadership by contributing to the broader AHS vision. The HMD will promote an environment that fosters quality improvement, a safe, culturally diverse environment for staff, physicians and patients and a commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression.
Key Responsibilities are:
· Provide effective and consistent communication to support front line practitioner engagement;
· Work with the HMDs respective Operational Manager(s) in partnership to facilitate effective day-to-day operations;
· Advocate for the provision of high quality and safe patient care in a Hospital and its Area;
· Shall liaise with, external stakeholders, community members and operational partner(s) under the leadership of the ACML and CML;
· Shall perform all duties as may be designated or delegated by the ACML, CML, or designate;
· Shall anticipate and identify organizational risks (patient safety, political, media) and escalate to medical leadership and operational leadership;
· Shall attend meetings as requested by the ACML or Medical Affairs consistent with the positions responsibilities and FTE;
· Shall participate in investigation and resolution of complaints involving Physician Site members in compliance with AHS MSB and MSR;
· Shall resolve physician related disputes/conflicts within the Site in compliance with AHS bylaws.
· Shall work collaboratively with Medical Affairs to develop and maintain a physician workforce plan for the Department.
Candidates must be Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) certified, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training
