Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral center offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features; 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. The Laboratory Medicine Department of the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) of Interior Health Authority is seeking a hematopathologist to join the growing KGH HP division.

KGH is a regional referral hospital providing specialized surgical, medical and oncology services to 500,000 people and is the regional trauma and main cardiac services / surgery center. Locally there is a small group of hematologists providing local and regional consultation services, as well as a busy provincial referral oncology center for the interior (BCCA-Kelowna). The successful candidate will join a laboratory faculty with 15 laboratory physicians, including 6 pathologists practicing in hematopathology (4 exclusively). The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of British Columbia and be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Responsibilities will include participating in diagnostic services for a spectrum of benign and malignant hematolymphoid tissues and samples, including procurement / interpretation of bone marrows and specimens for lymphoproliferative disorders (lymphoma protocols), transfusion medicine, coagulation and general hematology, as well as teaching and involvement in laboratory oversight roles as needed. A general pathologist with additional training in hematopathology will also be considered. Kelowna is centrally located in the southern interior of BC 4 hours from Vancouver and within 1 hour drive to other secondary sites in the Okanagan valley with a wide spectrum of activities available to suit any taste.
