Job Description

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital is seeking an individual to provide Internal Medicine - Cardiology services in Grande Prairie.

The successful candidate must have a demonstrated interest in practicing in a regional setting, hold FRCPC or equivalency in Internal Medicine; with a Fellowship in Cardiology.  Advanced training in Echocardiography is desired.

This position will have Alberta Health Services hospital privileges.

The position may include hospital call.

Duties include but not limited to:

     Reside in and have as his/her primary residence, Grande Prairie
•     Establish and maintain a full time Cardiology community-based practice within the community
•     Provide hospital support as required, including but not limited to stress testing, Holter & event monitoring and providing support to the Pacemaker Clinic
•     Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities
•     Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities as assigned.

The successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or by opening their own practice. This is the candidate's business choice and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Cross-country ski trails and a downhill ski facility just south of the city take full advantage of the scenic Wapiti River valley, well known for its wealth of dinosaur artifacts. The Prairie Art Gallery, Centre for Creative Arts, Second Street Theatre, a Live Theatre group and a college theatre all run drama and arts programs and productions for community members of all ages. A northern service centre for agriculture, forestry and petroleum industries, Grande Prairie is also a major retail shopping centre for a surrounding population of close to 250,000 people. An array of charming shops and boutiques add variety to the major retail stores and malls in Grande Prairie.

 The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital (GPRH) is a 208 bed acute care facility with a busy emergency department, ICU, NICU and specialty services in OB/Gyn, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, urology, palliative care, pediatrics, and psychiatry; hosting 10,000 discharges, approximately 55,000 emergency department visits, over 1,400 deliveries and more than 9,000 surgical procedures annually. The new hospital also includes radiation therapy services, further increasing the capacity to provide services to the people of Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

  • Cardiology Fellowship is required.
