Locum Opportunity – Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine at the Timmins and District Hospital is seeking locum Internists to provide on-call coverage for the period noted above. Partial coverage can also be accommodated based on availability.

The Timmins and District Hospital is a 215-bed district referral and teaching hospital serving a local population of 41,000 and a catchment area of 110,000 in Northeastern Ontario. The hospital provides a full range of services including Medical, Surgical, Critical Care, Maternal/Child, Complex Continuing Care, and Mental Health.

Details of TADH’s Internal Medicine Department

• Internists act as the Most Responsible Physician for ICU patients, with an average census of 4 to 6 patients, including approximately 1 to 3 intubated patients.
• Provide consultations for ward patients referred by GP Hospitalists and Emergency Department patients requiring assessment for ICU or floor admission.
• Provide rapid follow-up assessments for recently discharged patients when requested by the Emergency Department.
• TADH’s 6-bed Level 2 ICU serves Timmins and surrounding district communities and has the capability for ventilation, dialysis, and transvenous pacing.
• The ICU is supported by a multidisciplinary team, including 24/7 Nursing and Respiratory Therapy, as well as Social Work, Dietitians, Speech Therapy, and Physiotherapy.
• Ward patients are managed by GP Hospitalists who rotate weekly.

Additional Income Opportunities

The following opportunities are available during the locum and are optional:

• Internal Medicine Clinic, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
• Stress testing, Thursday mornings and afternoons.
• Reporting of ECGs, Holter monitors, and PFTs assigned during the locum period.

Remuneration

• Minimum of $2,460.19 per day (comprised of NSLP daily honorarium of $386.44/day, NSLP On-Call Sessional of $1,773.75, and TADH daily stipend of $300.00/day).
• Eligible travel expenses (airfare/mileage, car rental, accommodations, and a travel stipend) will be covered up to a maximum, as per program guidelines.

Position Requirements

Candidates must:

• Hold Royal College certification in Internal Medicine.
• Be licensed to practice as an Internist in Ontario.
• Maintain CMPA coverage.
• Hold an independent CPSO practice license and active OHIP billing number.
• Demonstrate excellent clinical skills, commitment to patient safety, and high standards of care.
