Internal Medicine - Full-Time, Part-Time, and Locum

The Department of Internal Medicine at Brockville General Hospital invites applications from interested and qualified candidates for the role of Internist, with opportunities to support our Hospitalist Team. Full-time, part-time, and locum positions are available including entry-to-practice opportunities for new graduates.
Successful candidates will join a team of dynamic physicians focused on providing safe, effective care in a collaborative and collegial environment.
Practice Profile
Internists provide patient care including diagnosis and treatment, prescribing treatments, managing complex conditions and diagnosing and treating acute illnesses and chronic diseases. Responsibilities and opportunities include:
- Offering exceptional care in a community-based practice
- Supporting the hospitalist team as Admissionist during daytime hours which includes consults (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)
- Opportunity to take an active role as Hospitalist when there are scheduling requirements which includes supporting an estimated 20 to 22 patients as part of the hospitalist team
- Committing to an estimated two to three calls for every five days of coverage
- Attending multidisciplinary meetings
Practice Environment
Brockville General Hospital is a 172-bed hospital in the city of Brockville, which is 45-minutes from Kingston and an hour from Ottawa. Brockville General is the largest hospital in Lanark, Leeds, and Grenville County, serving a catchment area of 250,000. Located in the beautiful Thousand Islands Region, we are the perfect place to practice and play as evidenced in Imagine Brockville Life.
The practice environment is comprised of 52+ acute medicine beds (which increase when surge spaces are utilized) and 54 rehabilitation bed with multidisciplinary teams including physiotherapy, rehabilitation therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, social work, dieticians, discharge planning, and wound care.
Specialized in-house services at Brockville General include GIM, general surgery, urology, radiology, psychiatry, orthopedics, and palliative as well as a 10-bed, level 3 ICU and certified stroke centre. Brockville General is also equipped with ultrasound, 24/7 lab including tele-radiology, XR, CT, and an MRI. Cerner EMR which was recently launched as part of the Lumeo regional initiative. Both Ottawa and Kingston serve as tertiary referral centres.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have an M.D. or equivalent, be board-certified in Internal Medicine (FRCPC) and have Independent Practice licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Proficiency in English is required. Subspecialties will be considered.
Remuneration
Internists receive fee for service plus additional Hospital On Call Coverage (HOCC). When acting as a Hospitalist, Internists receive $1,800 per day for core hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) plus fee for service outside of these hours and HOCC.
