Job Description

Description:

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate physician(s) to join our multidisciplinary team in Addiction Medicine. This role is an exciting opportunity for a physician(s) with a specialized interest in addiction recovery, providing care within a detox-oriented, strength-based, and hope-inspired clinical environment.

The successful candidate will provide medical care at the Addiction Recovery Centre (ARC) and collaborate with a diverse team of counselors, nurses, social workers, and administrative professionals. Key responsibilities include:

Conducting comprehensive health assessments upon patient admission

Providing primary care support and medical oversight for patients in detox and recovery

Prescribing and reviewing medication regimens, including Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT)

Offering clinical counseling and coaching to patients

Initiating and managing medical protocols based on patient assessments

Providing referrals for ongoing treatment and aftercare

Contributing to medical leadership and consultation within the multidisciplinary team

Time Commitment & On-Call Requirements

Causal appointment at ARC with an emphasis on year-round weekend coverage and summer vacation coverage

Periodic evening on-call coverage (from home)

Rotational weekend on-call coverage at ARC

Potential expectation of cross-coverage at Henwood Treatment Centre (a residential addiction treatment facility) as part of the on-call roster

Qualifications:

MD degree (CCFP designation preferred)

Certification or specialization in Addiction Medicine (preferred), or a strong interest/experience in addiction care.

Experience managing addiction treatment, including Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT), alcohol anti-craving regimes, is an asset.
