Job Description
Assisted Living Alberta (ALA), Edmonton invites applications for the role of Medical Director, Palliative Care.
This 0.20 FTE position governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports to the Clinical Department Head (ZCDH), Oncology and the ALA Medical Director, Seniors Health and Continuing Care Edmonton Health Corridor . The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that standards of care are being met in the department and that support for research and teaching is available.
The Medical Director, Palliative Care is a pivotal leadership role charged with redefining and advancing the vision for Palliative Care services in Edmonton. This position is a leadership role contributing guidance and advice for strategic planning, project development and quality care for all patients receiving Palliative Care services. This medical-administrative leader will work with the medical leadership team contributing expert guidance and advice to matters within the Clinical Section of Palliative Care; and conducting rigorous performance management and quality improvement.
This leader position is accountable for ensuring effective support at the site level for teaching and research, promoting educational programs and developing/promoting departmental research activities for Clinical Section members and other staff associated with the Clinical Section, patient safety, quality management and more. The role will also support recruitment and retention of physicians to the section and liaise with Councils and other site medical leaders.
The position has an expected start date of approximately August 1, 2026 and an expected term of 3 years.

They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.
Candidates must be registered or eligible for registration with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent, eligible to work in Canada, and be eligible for or have current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
