Job Description

Northern Health is seeking locum physicians to provide clinic-based family practice, Emergency Department coverage, or a combination of both at the Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre in Burns Lake, British Columbia.

This flexible locum opportunity allows physicians to tailor their locum based on their interests and availability. Locums may work exclusively in the community clinic, exclusively in the Emergency Department, or enjoy a blended rural locum that combines both family medicine and emergency care.

The Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre is a modern 15-bed facility that opened in 2015 and serves a local and surrounding population of approximately 13,000 residents. The hospital sees approximately 12,000 Emergency Department visits annually and provides emergency services, acute care, palliative care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, rehabilitation, pharmacy, public health, and home and community care services.

The community clinic is supported by a collaborative physician team, with Emergency Department coverage shared among a group of 5–7 physicians. Rural Team-Based Virtual Support (RTVS) is available to provide additional Emergency Department support.

Emergency Department remuneration
Up to $3,500 per shift plus Medical On-Call Availability Program (MOCAP) and Rural Emergency Enhancement Fund (REEF) payments
Travel and accommodation provided
Travel stipend of $250–$1,500 per round trip, based on travel time

Clinic locums are remunerated through Locums for Rural BC
$1573/24 hours.

Travel stipend of $250–$1,500 per round trip, based on travel time

Obstetrical services are not provided locally, with deliveries accommodated in nearby Vanderhoof or Prince George.

New graduates are welcome. A strong support structure is in place, including an experienced physician team and shared call group.
