Job Description

Regional Cardiology Outreach Opportunities

Cardiac Electrophysiology • Heart Failure • Cardiac Rehabilitation • Preventive Cardiology • Cardiac Imaging

North Bay Cardiology – Hybrid Outreach Practice

North Bay Cardiology is seeking cardiologists with subspecialty expertise who are interested in helping improve access to cardiovascular care across Northern Ontario (North Bay and Nipissing Region) through an innovative collaborative hybrid outreach practice.

This opportunity is ideal for physicians who wish to maintain their primary practice in a larger academic or tertiary centre while developing a rewarding regional outreach practice combining periodic in-person clinics with virtual care and remote diagnostic interpretation.

Rather than relocating, physicians can contribute to the development of specialized regional cardiovascular programs while maintaining flexibility and work-life balance. The new Ontario North Lander train allows direct links between downtown Toronto and North Bay.

ABOUT NORTH BAY CARDIOLOGY

North Bay Cardiology has rapidly grown into one of Northern Ontario's most comprehensive community cardiovascular centres.

Our practice includes:

  • Accreditation Canada Accredited Echocardiography Laboratory
  • Contrast-enhanced echocardiography and advanced imaging technologies
  • Large regional ambulatory rhythm monitoring program
  • Exercise stress testing
  • Advanced Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), performed with a new Vyntus CPX metabolic cart
  • Regional Heart Failure Program
  • Comprehensive multidisciplinary Cardiac Rehabilitation Program developed in collaboration with the University Health Network (UHN)
  • Active cardiovascular quality improvement and clinical research initiatives

The practice serves a large regional referral population across Northeastern Ontario with significant unmet demand for cardiovascular subspecialty services.

OUTREACH SUBSPECIALTY OPPORTUNITIES

Cardiac Electrophysiology

Help develop a regional atrial fibrillation and electrophysiology program.

Clinical opportunities include:

  • Comprehensive atrial fibrillation assessment
  • Ablation referral pathways
  • Antiarrhythmic medication management
  • Interpretation of ambulatory rhythm monitoring
  • Hybrid in-person and virtual follow-up clinics

Physicians may combine

one or two outreach clinic days per month with remote Holter/echo interpretation and virtual follow-up appointments.

Heart Failure

North Bay has a rapidly expanding population of patients with:

  • HFrEF
  • HFnrEF
  • Complex heart failure requiring longitudinal management

Physicians may participate in:

  • Monthly multidisciplinary heart failure clinics
  • Guideline-directed medical therapy optimization
  • Virtual longitudinal follow-up
  • Interpretation of echocardiography
  • ECG interpretation
  • Holter interpretation
  • CPET interpretation
  • Collaborative care model with local provider (Dr Jari Tuomi)

Cardiac Rehabilitation & Preventive Cardiology

Our comprehensive multidisciplinary rehabilitation program offers opportunities for physicians interested in:

  • Exercise medicine
  • Secondary prevention
  • Cardiometabolic medicine
  • CPET interpretation
  • Rehabilitation consultation
  • Virtual rehabilitation follow-up
  • Rehabilitation discharge assessment
  • Exercise prescription

Our 16 week Comprehensive cardiac rehab program was developed in collaboration with UHN rehab and is supported by the North Bay Cardiac Rehabilitation Foundation. Website: www.nbcr-foundation.ca (Home - North Bay Cardiac Rehabilitation Foundation).

Physicians can combine

periodic in-person rehabilitation clinics with remote/inperson CPET interpretation and virtual patient follow-up.

Cardiac Imaging

Opportunities are also available for physicians interested in:

  • Remote Echocardiography interpretation
  • Quality assurance
  • Educational initiatives

FLEXIBLE HYBRID PRACTICE

Physicians may customize their level of participation.

Examples include:

  • One or two in-person clinic days per month
  • Virtual follow-up clinics
  • Remote echocardiography reporting
  • Remote Holter reporting
  • Remote CPET interpretation
  • Participation in multidisciplinary case conferences
  • Collaborative management with local cardiology services

The model is designed to minimize travel while maximizing patient access to specialized cardiovascular care.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

This outreach model allows physicians to:

  • Maintain a primary academic or tertiary-care practice.
  • Develop a regional outreach subspecialty practice without relocating.
  • Improve access to cardiovascular care for underserved communities.
  • Participate in innovative hybrid models of care.
  • Collaborate with an experienced multidisciplinary cardiovascular team.
  • Contribute to education, quality improvement, and clinical research.

For physicians with academic appointments, opportunities may also exist to participate in trainee education, quality improvement, implementation science, and collaborative research focused on regional and remote cardiovascular care. North Bay Cardiology is also interested in hosting cardiovascular trainee's with the ability to arrange an elective through NOSM.

HELP BUILD THE FUTURE OF REGIONAL CARDIOLOGY

Our vision is to create a sustainable regional cardiovascular network where specialized expertise can be delivered closer to home through thoughtful integration of outreach clinics, virtual care, remote diagnostics, and collaborative multidisciplinary practice.

If you are passionate about expanding access to high-quality cardiovascular care while maintaining your existing practice, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss how your expertise could become part of this growing regional program.

Interested?

If this opportunity intrigues you, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how we might collaborate to improve access to cardiovascular care across North Eastern Ontario.

Whether your interests include electrophysiology, heart failure, cardiac rehabilitation, preventive cardiology, cardiac imaging, ambulatory rhythm monitoring, or other areas of cardiovascular medicine, we are happy to explore flexible practice models that complement your existing academic or community practice.

We recognize that every physician's career goals are unique. Together, we can develop an outreach model that aligns with your professional interests while helping bring specialized cardiovascular care closer to home for patients living in underserved communities.
