Practice Details
We are seeking locum family physicians to provide maternity care through the Fort St. John Prenatal Clinic and Birthing Centre. Our team offers strong, highly independent nursing support in a physiologic birth-forward environment. Fort St. John is proud to have one of the lowest cesarean section rates in British Columbia and among the highest birth rates per capita in the country, with approximately 650-700 births per year.

Prenatal Clinic & Birthing Centre
The Fort St. John Prenatal Clinic was established in partnership with the North Peace Division and Northern Health Authority in 2014. We are a dedicated and passionate maternity care team committed to providing compassionate, patient-focused care. The clinic collaborates closely with the Birthing Centre team, which includes family physicians, maternity nurses, obstetricians, GP anesthesia and pediatricians. The clinic provides prenatal care to pregnant patients in Fort St. John and the surrounding area and sees an average of 24 patients per day.

Fort St. John Hospital
Fort St. John has a modern hospital and care home facility. In-town specialists include general surgery, internal medicine, OB/GYN, psychiatry, orthopedics and pediatrics, with additional visiting specialists including dermatology, ophthalmology and rheumatology. Other specialists are available throughout Northern BC.

The Fort St. John Hospital has 44 acute care beds and 124 residential beds and is equipped to handle approximately 22,000 emergency visits per year.

Fort St. John also has a Health Unit and Primary Care Clinic serving the community.

Fort St. John is known as "The Energetic City," reflecting the region’s strong resource base in oil, natural gas, forestry and agriculture. Overlooking the Peace River and situated above the Peace River Valley, Fort St. John serves as a hub for Northeastern British Columbia. The city has a population of approximately 23,000 and serves a surrounding area of approximately 70,000.

The community offers a cultural centre and library, theatre and arts spaces, seven elementary schools, two middle schools, one secondary school, and a Northern Lights College campus.

Fort St. John is the largest city in Northeastern BC, with daily direct flights to Vancouver and Calgary. Recreational opportunities include camping, hiking, golfing, pickleball, tennis, baseball, fishing and lakeside activities in the summer, and sledding, ice fishing, hockey and cross-country skiing in the winter. The city also supports a vibrant theatre and arts community, along with an indoor speed skating track, running track, soccer field, three hockey rinks, an indoor pool and a curling rink.
