Job Description
Come work and play in Cottage Country (Parry Sound, Ontario)!
We are looking for TWO orthopedic surgeons to join our surgical team. West Parry Sound Health Centre is located at the heart of the 30,000 Islands area of Georgian Bay. One of the fastest-growing and desirable communities in the region, just two hours from Toronto/YYZ via 4-lane highway. Regular catchment population is 25 000, with a seasonal influx of up to 150 000.
Teaching opportunities and academic appointments (and funding) are available through NOSM.
We have three ORs plus an endo suite (currently staffing two lists per day). The hospital features 70 acute care beds, an 18-bed ER, a 6-bed ICU, and the usual amenities (lab/blood bank, modern CT scanner, C-arm, ultrasound, etc...). Collegial internal medicine, hospitalist, ER, and anesthesia support!
Historically the WPSHC orthopedic surgery program has performed a mix of QBP elective surgeries, including hip and knee replacements (up to 260/year), in addition to a significant number of other cases (a further 300+ QBP-funded cases annually, plus other non-QBP cases). Interesting mix of typical cottage country trauma, including femur, ankle, wrist, and arm. Regular orthopedic resources include 3 OR lists per week plus 1-2 fracture clinics. Call demands are not typically onerous, with an average of 3-4 trauma surgeries per week. Hospitalist service even takes care of MRP duties for admitted patients.
Remuneration for permanent work is very generous (includes large NRRRI incentive, and the highly-desirable NSAPP program). Great community for living safely and comfortably, away from the stress of the city. Work with a collegial and enthusiastic perioperative team, and enjoy your free time to hike, golf, sail, fish, bike, ski, paddle, and explore.
