Job Description

Position Summary

Within the context of a patient and family-centered model of care, and in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions of Providence Health Care (“Providence”), the Division of Vascular Surgery is seeking a Vascular Surgeon at St. Paul’s Hospital.

The Providence Health Care (PHC) Division of Vascular Surgery invites applications from outstanding Vascular Surgeons for a full-time position. This position is based at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH), which is a University of British Columbia (UBC)-affiliated teaching hospital in Vancouver. The successful candidate is expected to obtain a clinical faculty appointment within the UBC Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery.

Qualifications

The Division of Vascular Surgery is seeking a candidate with clinical expertise in all aspects of general vascular surgery, capable of providing consultancy-level support for both elective and emergency vascular surgery. Supplementary formal clinical fellowship training beyond vascular surgery residency is desirable, particularly if it enhances the Division’s clinical and scholarly mission.

As part of the PHC and UBC Divisions of Vascular Surgery, the successful candidate will contribute to the development and growth of research and education programs. Applicants must hold FRCSC designation in Vascular Surgery (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure in British Columbia as follows:
• Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – Full
• Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPS) – Mandatory

Candidates should demonstrate:
• Effective communication skills
• Potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels
• Exceptional work ethic and collegiality

The successful candidate will be expected to lead and contribute to clinical and academic activities e.g. conduct of clinical research studies, and/or relevant quality assurance projects. They must be able to collaborate with other divisions and multidisciplinary teams.

The PHC Division of Vascular Surgery is actively involved in the care of patients with a wide spectrum of presentations and pathologies with catchment from throughout British Columbia. The successful candidate will be expected to join the Division’s current group structure as a full member: collaborative practice administration and patient care.

Compensation is based on a Clinical Service Contract. All surgeons in our practice share equally in the on-call schedule based on their FTE.

The position will begin at the current SPH site on Burrard Street in Vancouver but will transition to the New St. Paul’s Hospital on Station Street in Vancouver’s False Creek Flats neighbourhood in 2027.

The successful candidate will also exemplify Providence’s values and contribute to a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion. In addition, Providence is committed to our responsibilities on Truth and Reconciliation. We hold ourselves accountable for making our care, facilities and services a safer experience for Indigenous patients, residents, families, staff and Medical Staff.

Why PHC

Providence is a non-profit Catholic organization that provides services in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health and the Provincial Health Services Authority. At Providence we embrace compassionate care, social justice, and innovation while delivering medical services to vulnerable populations across Vancouver and its neighbouring communities. Providence is committed to building a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion where the staff and Medical Staff – both current and prospective – feel welcomed, valued, and supported to thrive in their work. As we look towards the future, we are led by four strategic pillars: quality-forward, people-forward, learning-forward, and partnerships-forward. We invite you to join us as we work towards building the future of healthcare in British Columbia.

How to Apply

To build a strong and representative workforce, we encourage physicians from all backgrounds to apply. We are deeply committed to diversity within our community, and welcome applications from Indigenous persons, people of colour, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity, and others who may contribute to the further diversification and inclusion of ideas, practices, and ways of knowing that can improve our care and services.

Providence Health Care hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equality. We encourage all qualified persons to apply. However, Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a letter of introduction outlining qualifications and interest in the position, as well as a current CV and the names of three (3) references. We will be reviewing applications beginning December 10 but will accept applications until the time the position is filled.

Qualifications:
Current College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) License (Full); Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) (Mandatory); Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) (Mandatory); Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) (Mandatory)
