Job Description

Pediatric Neuroradiologist

Regular Full Time or Part-Time Position

Department of Radiology

BC Children’s Hospital

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) is seeking a Full-Time or Part-Time Pediatric Neuroradiologist or combined Pediatric Neuroradiologist / Pediatric Radiologist to join the Department of Radiology.

The successful applicant will join our team of 16 Pediatric and Interventional Radiologists delivering imaging services at the BC Children's Hospital, a 220-bed tertiary and quaternary care hospital serving British Columbia's children and families; we also deliver imaging consulting services to the entire province of British Columbia. The radiology department is located within the Teck Acute Care Centre, which opened in October 2017. We are equipped with state-of-the-art 3T and 1.5T MRI, dual-source high-pitch CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, fluoroscopy, radiography and angiography/IR systems.

Our Neuroradiology service currently consists of four current full- and part-time staff who provide daily coverage for neuroimaging. An applicant who is a dedicated neuroradiologist will be expected to contribute to that service full-time, while one with general pediatric diagnostic radiology experience will also have the opportunity to cover other anatomic- and modality-based services, like Body Imaging or Ultrasound. Our current service is a mix of both types of radiologists.

Teaching and clinical research are integral parts of the role. The BCCH Department of Radiology is affiliated with the University of British Columbia and offers both residency and fellowship training in Pediatric Radiology, and staff are expected to supervise and teach these trainees. Applicants should demonstrate strong communication skills and aspire to advance academic radiology. Academic time is supported for research and educational activities. The successful applicant will be recommended for clinical faculty appointment to the University of British Columbia. Academic rank, dependent on qualifications, will be conferred by the Department of Radiology of the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine.

The Department is committed to supporting and maintaining a positive work-life balance for its medical staff. Applications from those who seek part-time work are welcome, and a number of our existing staff work part-time to increase time with their families and quality of life.

Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in the Province of British Columbia, have or be eligible for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Diagnostic Radiology, and have completed a recognized fellowship in Neuroradiology with additional training or clinical experience in Pediatric Neuroradiology. Completion of a fellowship in Pediatric Radiology is desirable, but not required.

Applications, accompanied by a cover letter, detailed curriculum vitae, and teaching dossier, should be directed to: Health Match BC

Applications will be reviewed immediately, and the position will remain open until it is filled.

BC Children’s Hospital and the University of British Columbia are committed to employment equity and hire on the basis of merit. We recognize that our ability to provide the best care for our diverse patient populations relies on a rich diversity of skills, knowledge, background and experience, and value a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.

Equity, diversity and inclusion

PHSA, BCCH, and UBC are committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals, including Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, people of diverse gender identities or expressions, and members of other equity-seeking groups.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to beginning and continuing their personal learning journey related to Indigenous-specific racism and dismantling systems of oppression, as well as addressing racism more broadly. Shows willingness to articulate and share their learning experiences to contribute to a culture of motivation and inspiration among peers.

As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Foundational knowledge of the social, economic, and political realities of settler-colonialism and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and equity-deserving groups within social and health contexts. Understands the impact of social determinants of health-on-health outcomes. Shows a commitment to learning about and upholding legislative obligations and provincial commitments outlined in foundational documents such as the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study, the BC Human Rights Code, Anti-Racism Data Act, and the Distinctions Based Approach.

What we do

BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) cares for the province’s most acutely ill or injured children and youth, provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offers a broad range of health services.

BCCH is an academic health science center dedicated to the care of children, youth and their families and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC). It is consistently ranked among the top ten World’s Best Specialized Hospitals. UBC is Canada’s third largest university and consistently ranks among the 40 best universities in the world. Primarily situated in Vancouver, UBC is a research‐intensive university and has an economic impact of $4 billion to the provincial economy.

BCCH is a program of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) Services Authority (PHSA) which plans, manages and evaluates specialized health services with the BC health authorities to provide equitable and cost-effective health care for people throughout the province. PHSA, BCCH and UBC are committed to anti-racism and equity in our hiring and employment practices. We invite applications and enquiries from all people, particularly those belonging to the historically, systemically, and/or persistently excluded groups identified under the B.C. Human Rights Code.

We welcome Indigenous individuals to apply and/or contact the Sanya’k̓ula Team (Indigenous Recruitment & Employee Experience) for support at ***@phsa.ca (🔒 Premium).

Indigenous-specific anti-racism initiatives are rooted in addressing the unique forms of discrimination, historical and ongoing injustices, and exclusion faced by Indigenous peoples.
