Job Description

The Physician Lead of the Regina UCC1 will report to Deputy Chief Medical Officer or designate.
The Physician Lead will support a collaborative, team-based care environment, while functioning collaboratively with the UCC1 interdisciplinary health team. The Physician Lead will also:
  • Lead, promote and effectively articulate to frontline physicians and clinicians the vision of the UCC1 and how the UCC1 will influence and improve safe, quality client care.
  • Work with the lead of UCC Operations to ensure adequate emergency medicine physician staffing, appropriate training and required resources to achieve accessibility goals and efficiency.
  • Supervise and direct medical treatment activities and recommended changes to better utilize facilities, services and staff.
  • Implement clinical safety standards and practices and ensure compliance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
  • Develop, implement and revise procedures and protocol affecting medical practice and quality of care. Ensure compliance with clinical procedures and standards including the proper usage of EMR and administrative systems.
  • Lead, in accordance with the assigned budget, the scheduling of physician shifts at the UCC1 and confirm shifts were worked by physicians as part of the payment authorization process.
  • Participate in committees that are related to Regina UCC1.
  • Develop coalitions, work effectively with internal SHA stakeholders, and draw on expertise in the community, to help establish the multi-disciplinary clinical care model of the Regina UCC1, including defining the role of family physician trained providers, in conjunction with co-Leads.
  • Build, through engagement, collaboration and support, a network of committed and motivated physicians and clinicians to work in the Regina UCC1.
  • Create and sustain a workplace environment that fosters the application of evidence informed practice, compliance with regulations and accreditation standards, utilization of clinical research and management of risk and adverse events in collaboration with corporate resources.
  • Assist with the implementation of clinical services and service/program evaluation; including participation in research activities and promoting the application of valid findings into practice as applicable.
  • Review any complaints, as requested, concerning the provision of clinical care by the Regina UCC1.
  • Review patient care reports and audits by following up on reviews, as required or requested by the SHA.
  • Lead and engage with Regina UCC Leadership, as well as internal stakeholders and community organizations to develop an environment of cultural competence, focused on Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Other duties as mutually agreed to between the Physician Lead and the SHA.

    Qualifications:

  • Licensed medical practitioner with emergency medicine training (FRCPC-EM/CCFP-EM/ABEM) in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS)
  • Canadian Certified Physician Executive Credential would be an asset
  • Advanced education in Health Care Administration, Public Administration and/or Leadership Studies would be an asset
  • Participation in the Canadian Medical Association’s Physician Leadership Institute would be an asset
  • Additional training and/or education in leadership/management would be an asset
  • Experience, at an operational level, as a medical leader who has worked in partnership with administrative leaders to develop and lead innovative planning and programs in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Has knowledge of and experience in guiding health quality improvement processes and initiatives
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
