PRHC is proud to be recognized as one of the top 20 employers nationwide in the healthcare and social services category, and 199 overall among 300 Canadian employers across all sectors, on the Canada’s Best Employers list released by Forbes in 2025.

American-trained physicians are encouraged to apply — we provide assistance with work permits if needed.

The Opportunity

Our plastic surgery team is looking to expand our group. We are offering a locum as early as January 2025 with the opportunity for full-time employment for the right candidate. The collegial team of four plastic surgeons encourages personal development and growth.

This position will include comprehensive plastic surgery with a special focus on reconstructive breast surgery. This would include both immediate and delayed reconstruction but at this time there is no microsurgical program. Call responsibilities are one week in four (1:4) and include coverage for hand trauma, though craniofacial trauma expertise is not a requirement.

This position comes with weekly main OR time and minor procedure clinic access (up to one day per week). The ideal candidate is a surgeon interested in taking the lead on developing a more formal breast reconstruction program supported by an active group of general surgeons. Potential additional resources are available in this regard. This is a community-based position at a large regional hospital with no formal teaching or research requirements. PRHC has a welcoming and congenial OR staff with a friendly community hospital environment.

Position Qualifications:

• Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). A clear and viable pathway to licensure must be established at the time of application

•Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or equivalent training (e.g., American Board Certification) and eligible for RCPSC assessment.

• Eligible for Active or associate staff privileges at Peterborough Regional Health Centre

• Evidence of ongoing continued medical education

• Demonstrated ability to Integrate current evidence and best practice into delivery of quality care in the division

• Demonstrated analytical skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing, staff, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required

• Excellent organizational skills and ability to adapt to continually changing priorities

• Demonstrated ability to achieve goals and objectives within specified time frames

• Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach

• Actively encourage a spirit of cooperation amongst team members

Work Better

PRHC is a regional hospital delivering acute healthcare to a rapidly growing population of more than 300,000 in Peterborough and the surrounding communities, including the First Nations of Curve Lake, Alderville and Hiawatha.

The Health Centre is located in Peterborough Ontario, a 90-minute drive north-east of Toronto – and has a proud local history extending back over a century. We are the region’s largest employer with more than 2,900 staff, 400 physicians with privileges and a core group of 250 volunteers.

As a member of the PRHC team, you will be part of an exceptional working environment – a forum to share knowledge, to lead and learn, to develop talents, relationships and careers, and a culture that recognizes and celebrates the efforts and achievements of its people.

Live Better

In Peterborough, you’ll be as close to the great outdoors as you are to work, schools and other amenities. Cottage country is as close as 20 minutes away. An hour south of Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park and a couple of hours from Algonquin Provincial Park. Here, we boast all the conveniences and comforts that an exceptional quality of life demands. Here, you can have it all.

Just 90 minutes from downtown Toronto by car, Peterborough is a unique community unto itself, an established entity with a rich heritage, a thriving culture, and a bright future. Home to Trent University and Fleming College as well as a burgeoning business

sector, the opportunities here abound.

Peterborough offers a unique blend of outdoor pursuits and urban amenities right at your doorstep. Our arts and culture community is renowned for its exceptional events, exhibitions and performances, and the city offers a wide array of multicultural cuisine, local cafés, and unique shops.

PRHC is an accessible workplace, and an equal opportunity

employer. For more information about our programs and
