Job Description
A position for a General Adult Psychiatrist with the Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) is now available! Kitchener-Waterloo is an excellent place to raise a family, offers world-class educational institutions, and is located approximately 1 to 1.5 hours from Toronto and Pearson International Airport.
ACTT provides intensive, community-based psychiatric care for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. The team delivers recovery-oriented, interdisciplinary care focused on stability, functional improvement, and community integration. The team is well-established, highly collaborative, and well-resourced, and values shared decision-making, continuity of care, and strong therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
The WRHN psychiatry department is a large group of 25 psychiatrists working across inpatient, outpatient, and community-based services. The group is collegial, supportive, and values collaboration and shared clinical leadership.
This position is primarily outpatient and community-based, with a flexible time commitment that may be full-time or part-time (3 to 4 days per week). There is an opportunity to combine this role with inpatient or additional outpatient work. Compensation for ACTT work is provided through a dedicated funding envelope, with additional inpatient or outpatient work remunerated through a mix of stipend and fee-for-service. Call is shared between the ACTT psychiatrist and the Chicopee site psychiatrists in one-week blocks. Opportunities exist for an academic appointment with McMaster University and involvement in teaching medical students and residents through the Waterloo Regional School of Medicine.
Candidates must hold independent CPSO licensure and Royal College certification in Psychiatry. Psychiatrists with a strong interest in community psychiatry, recovery-oriented care, and collaborative team-based practice are encouraged to apply. Interest from eligible residents in their final year of specialty training is also welcome.
