Job Description

Clinical Care

  • Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular consultations and assessments.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions.
  • Develop evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs.
  • Prescribe and monitor medications as appropriate.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up care and adjust treatment plans as required.
  • Educate patients regarding heart health, disease prevention, lifestyle modification, and treatment options.

Diagnostic Services

  • Interpret electrocardiograms (ECGs), Holter monitors, stress tests, echocardiograms, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and other cardiovascular diagnostic tests.
  • Recommend and coordinate additional diagnostic investigations when clinically indicated.
  • Assess cardiovascular risk through comprehensive evaluation and evidence-based screening.

Preventative Cardiology

  • Identify modifiable cardiovascular risk factors including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, obesity, smoking, and family history.
  • Counsel patients on exercise, nutrition, weight management, and other lifestyle interventions.
  • Collaborate with dietitians, exercise specialists, and other healthcare professionals to improve cardiovascular outcomes.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with family physicians, nurse practitioners, specialists, and allied health professionals.
  • Provide timely consultation reports and recommendations to referring healthcare providers.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary case discussions to optimize patient care.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely electronic medical records.
  • Ensure all documentation meets regulatory and professional standards.
  • Adhere to privacy legislation, infection prevention protocols, and clinic policies.

Quality Improvement

  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives.
  • Stay current with advances in cardiology through continuing medical education.
  • Support clinic initiatives focused on preventative healthcare and patient education.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent.
  • Fellowship certification in Cardiology.
  • Eligible for independent licensure with the applicable provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons.
  • Certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Cardiology.
  • Current malpractice coverage.
  • ACLS certification preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular diseases and current treatment guidelines.
  • Expertise in interpreting cardiac diagnostic investigations.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and patient education abilities.
  • Collaborative team player with a patient-first approach.
  • Commitment to evidence-based medicine and continuous professional development.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience practicing in an outpatient cardiology clinic or multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
  • Experience managing preventative cardiology and cardiovascular risk reduction programs.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Experience working within a collaborative healthcare team.
