Recovery Alberta invites applications for the role of Community Medical Director, Forensic Outpatient Services, North

This medical leadership role oversees:
•    Forensic Assessment and Community Services (FACS), which provides court-mandated forensic psychiatric assessment and treatment services for adults with mental health concerns who are in conflict with the law, including forensic risk assessments, psychiatric consultations and specialized treatment programing. 
•    Forensic Adolescent Services (Centerpoint Program), which provides specialized outpatient forensic mental health assessment and treatment services for youth aged 12-18 involved with the justice system, including psychiatric and psychological assessments, forensic risk assessments, individual and family therapy, psychiatric management and community consultation.

Physician leadership is central to driving high-performing, patient-centered health systems. This role combines clinical expertise with strategic and operational leadership, ensuring that medical decision-making, program priorities and organizational goals remain aligned. The successful candidate will foster collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement while supporting physician engagement and excellence in clinical practice.

This role involves:
•    Providing medical leadership and oversight for Forensic Assessment and Community Service (FACS) and Forensic Adolescent Services (Centrepoint Program). 
•    Supporting physician workforce planning, recruitment, retention, supervision, and performance management. 
•    Ensuring timely access to high-quality forensic mental health assessment, treatment, consultation and follow up care. 
•    Leading multidisciplinary teams and promoting a culture of collaboration, safety, wellness, and accountability. 
•    Monitoring clinical quality, patient safety, accreditation, readiness, and adherence to professional and organizational standards.
•    Collaborating with operational leaders and stakeholders on strategic planning, service development, resource allocation, and operational priorities. 
•    Advancing physician engagement, standards of practice, medical education, and academic partnerships. 
•    Leading quality improvement, research, innovation, and change-management initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery. 
 

Qualifications: 
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, effective, and respected physician leader who demonstrates strong communication skills, as well as a commitment to quality improvement and patient-centered forensic mental health care. The successful candidate will be capable of building effective partnerships across clinical, operational, academic, and community environments. 
The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency, have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and shall have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. 

In addition, the successful applicant shall:
•    Have evidence of administrative, leadership, quality improvement, and/or medical management experience. 
•    Demonstrate the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams. 
•    Have knowledge of forensic mental health services and the unique needs of justice-involved populations. 
•    Hold or be eligible for an academic appointment with the applicable Faculty of Medicine
•    Obtain and maintain a Recovery Alberta Medical Staff Appointment.

Reporting Relationship: 
The practitioner will report to the Program Medical Director, Forensic Psychiatry, North.

Term: 
Start September 2026

Additional Information:
This position is 0.2 FTE.

Remuneration is in accordance with CMO Policy for contracted medical leadership positions.
