Medical Director &/or Attending Physicians, Long Term Care, North Bay, ON

We are one of Canada’s largest owners and operators of over 100 owned and managed seniors’ living residences. Our portfolio includes locations across Ontario, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. 

We are working with Dr. Hugh Boyd, Sienna’s Chief Medical Officer, to strengthen the medical services model in our Care Communities and are currently recruiting for a medical director and attending physicians at:

Northern Heights Community

Overview of Position:

Reporting to Executive Director and the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director will work closely with the clinical leadership team at the Care Community to direct the medical services program.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides advice and leadership on the medical services program
  • Regularly communicates with the medical staff regarding relevant policies, procedures and responsibilities as attending physicians
  • Ensures appropriate on-call coverage has been arranged for all residents, after hours, in accordance with LTC on-call program as established between the MOLTC and the Ontario Medical Association
  • Participates in quality improvement activities in collaboration with the Care Community and interdisciplinary team
  • Willing to provide clinical care as one of the attending physicians at the Care Community
  • Develop quality of care standards in conjunction with the Care Community and interdisciplinary team
  • Attends the Care Community weekly in the provision of clinical care to assigned residents 
  • Addresses resident acute and chronic care needs and provides appropriate and timely documentation
  • Identifies circumstances in which palliative and/or end of life care may benefit the resident and family members
  • Collaborate effectively and efficiently with members of the interdisciplinary team including the medical director to ensure the highest level of care is provided to residents
  • Conducts regular medication drug review and documents/updates resident’s health record
  • Participates in after hours on-call along with other attending physicians at the facility
  • Commits to continuing education related to long term care, care of the elderly and palliative care

Qualifications:

  • Medical practitioner licensed to practice medicine in the Province of Ontario and at all times be a member in good standing of the Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
  • Experience working in Long Term Care or as a Medical Director preferred, with a willingness to enrol in the Ontario LTC Medical Director Curriculum within 12 months of starting as a Medical Director
  • Ability to build trust, adapt, provide coaching, facilitate change and continually improve resident care
  • Strong skills in communication and interprofessional collaboration
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to build trust and interact in a professional manner with staff, residents, families and other community partners
