The Max Rady College of Medicine and Shared Health are seeking an individual to provide outstanding leadership for the position of Head of the Department of Pathology, University of Manitoba and Provincial Specialty Lead, Department of Pathology, Shared Health commensurate with qualifications and experience for a five year term commencing July 1, 2026 or as soon thereafter as possible. The University partners with Shared Health Diagnostic Services and it is anticipated that a role within Provincial Diagnostic Services, contingent with qualifications, will be identified.

As Head of the University Department, the successful candidate will lead a department with an existing research program. The Department is responsible for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accredited residency training programs in Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology, Hematological Pathology, as well as a Forensic Pathology Fellowship. The Department also oversees a Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry post-doctoral training program. In addition the Department has an active MSc and PhD graduate degree program in Pathology, and an innovative Master’s degree program for Pathologist Assistants. The Department is responsible for the delivery of undergraduate medical teaching within the College of Medicine, University of Manitoba.

The Department will relate closely to Provincial Diagnostic Services, Shared Health, which is responsible for the operation of all public sector laboratory services in the Province and all diagnostic imaging services. They will provide leadership in the translation of scientific information into clinical services. Significant emphasis in the pursuit of a quality system to meet customer requirements; in design of the processes; in the reliability and efficiency of the production environment; and in monitoring and evaluation of performance indicators, will be required.

Candidates must have senior specialty qualifications in Pathology and/or laboratory medicine in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the appropriate regulatory body in Manitoba. Certification in Pathology and/or a laboratory medicine discipline by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred.
