Job Description

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital is seeking a Diagnostic Radiologist to join the group of radiologists servicing the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.  Basic interventional services, basic nuclear medicine and echo is desired but not required. 

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital (GPRH) opened December 4, 2021 and includes new imaging equipment such as new MRI, and two new 128 slice CT scanners. The new hospital also includes radiation therapy services, further increasing the capacity to provide services to the people of Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern BC.

GPRH is a regional hospital with a busy emergency department, ICU, Level II NICU and specialty services in OB/GYN, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, urology, palliative care, pediatrics, psychiatry and Cancer Care. 

The Grande Prairie Cancer Centre is one of four Regional Cancer Centres within Cancer Care Alberta’s Community Oncology portfolio.

Radiology services include ultrasound, computed tomography, nuclear medicine, MRI, diagnostic mammography/tomosynthesis, general radiography, and basic interventional services (CT, US and Mammography guided procedures).

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence, Grande Prairie

  • Provide hospital imaging interpretation and procedures, and call assistance, including full time participation in the Radiology on-call schedules for the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital

  • Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities

  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties as assigned

GRANDE PRAIRIE:  Located about 450 kilometers northwest of Edmonton, and about the same distance north of Jasper National Park, Grande Prairie offers the best of both worlds - big city amenities without losing the comfort of a smaller community and close proximity to outstanding wilderness areas. The City of Grande Prairie is an economically strong and culturally diverse large urban center, with a population of about 77,000 and growing. 

Grande Prairie residents enjoy city pride, beautiful homes, a wide choice of recreation, education, shopping and entertainment opportunities. In the centre of Grande Prairie, winding park trails along the Bear Creek valley takes walkers, joggers, bikers and roller blades through 15 kilometers of well treed and maintained park lands. A well-equipped indoor swimming facility, outdoor pool, fully equipped gymnastics centre, indoor hockey arenas - including a twin ice arena - offer children and adults a full choice of sports and recreational activities. Cross-country ski trails and a downhill ski facility just south of the city take full advantage of the scenic Wapiti River valley, well known for its wealth of dinosaur artifacts. The Prairie Art Gallery, Centre for Creative Arts, Second Street Theatre, a Live Theatre group and a college theatre all run drama and arts programs and productions for community members of all ages. A northern service centre for agriculture, forestry and petroleum industries, Grande Prairie is also a major retail shopping centre for a surrounding population of close to 250,000 people. An array of charming shops and boutiques add variety to the major retail stores and malls in Grande Prairie.

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital (GPRH) is a 208 bed acute care facility with a busy emergency department, ICU, NICU and specialty services in OB/Gyn, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, urology, palliative care, pediatrics, and psychiatry; hosting 10,000 discharges, approximately 59,000 emergency department visits, over 1,500 deliveries and more than 9,000 surgical procedures annually. The new hospital also includes radiation therapy services, further increasing the capacity to provide services to the people of Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC) - Fellow, Royal College of Physicians Canada - Diagnostic Radiology or EQUIVALENCY

  • Recent and relevant experience (within the past 1-2 years) in all areas of practice required, as Most Responsible Physician

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
