Emergency Physician
St. Joseph’s General Hospital – Elliot Lake, Ontario
Position Overview
St. Joseph’s General Hospital (SJGHEL) is seeking Emergency Physicians to join a collaborative and well-supported Emergency Department team. This opportunity offers comprehensive emergency medicine in a community hospital setting with strong interdisciplinary support and is open to EM-trained physicians and Family Physicians with ED interest. The Emergency Department sees approximately 30–40 patients per 24 hours.
Clinical Responsibilities & Department Highlights
- Emergency Department coverage
- Approximately 12–14 shifts per month
- Mix of 12- and 24-hour shifts, depending on scheduling needs
- Single physician coverage overnight (10:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m.)
- Interdisciplinary support including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants
Qualifications
- Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
- Certification in Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM, FRCPC), or Family Physicians interested in incorporating Emergency Department work into their practice
- Eligible for hospital privileges at St. Joseph’s General Hospital
- Commitment to collaborative, team-based care
Compensation & Incentives
- Emergency Department Alternate Funding Arrangement (EDAFA)
- Shadow billing (~37%)
- Recruitment signing bonus
- Complimentary community recreation memberships for four years
- May be eligible for Northern Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative (NRRRI): approximately $118,579 over four years (Year 1 – 40%; Years 2 and 3 – 15% each; Year 4 – 30%)
