The Opportunity
Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) is recruiting full-time and part-time Emergency Physicians (EPs) to join a busy, high-acuity Emergency Department serving approximately 87,000 patient visits each year. This fast- paced environment offers impressive case complexity across all age groups and acuity levels, providing a dynamic and professionally rewarding practice in a community known for its exceptional quality of life. Expect robust team overlap; our scheduling model prioritizes support. The department is staffed by 32 full and part-time EPs. Coverage is 24/7 with up to 12 scheduled shifts per 24 hour period, which means double coverage on midnights and that there may be up to six (6) EPs on at one time. Shifts are divided fairly amongst the EPs with the exception of locums, who are exempt from midnights for the first three (3) to six (6) months. Shifts are six (6) to eight and a half (8.5) hours in length. We are committed to clinical excellence. Our team participates in monthly high-fidelity simulation sessions and educational rounds, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives. We also organize and host an annual Kawartha Emergency Medicine conference. We are affiliated with Queen’s University and are an educational site for the CCFP (EM) residents and the Queens CCFP residency program based in Peterborough. Our group is very collegial with excellent clinical support for each other, new locums and staff. PRHC has been designated as a Level III Trauma Centre site and has a high-volume cardiac catheterization laboratory that performs diagnostic and interventional procedures, including a 24/7 EMS bypass Code STEMI system. As an EP you will have excellent support from specialty colleagues and access to advanced resources.
Remuneration is via an Alternate Funding Arrangement (AFA). Minimum expected annual earnings for a full-time practicing Emergency Physician working at our hospital and in our region is more than $400,000. Benefits are not applicable for this position. Language of work is English.
Position Qualifications:
· Currently licensed with the College of Physicians and
Surgeons of Ontario or eligible to obtain license
· CCFP(EM), FRCP (EM), ABEM certification or CCFP with experience in Emergency Medicine
· Eligible for active or associate staff privileges at PRHC
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and the interdisciplinary team
· Demonstrated ability to integrate current evidence and best practice into the delivery of quality care
· Evidence of ongoing continued medical education to satisfy the requirements of the appropriate college
