Job Description
Covenant Health invites applications for a Non‑MRP Hospitalist position within the General Surgery program at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital (GNH) in Edmonton, Alberta.
This role requires a fully licensed physician to provide medical and surgical co-management for patients admitted to the GNH General Surgery Service at the request of the attending General Surgeon. Responsibilities include inpatient management, responding to General Surgery consults in the Emergency Department, and providing after-hours (nights and weekends) surgical assist services across all surgical programs at GNH.
The position functions within a co‑managed care model in which the Non‑MRP Hospitalist works under the guidance of an attending Surgeon while independently managing inpatient medical and surgical issues, Emergency consults, and OR/Surgical Assist duties. Coverage is divided into two shift types—Ward/Consults and OR/Surgical Assist—both of which will be available to the successful candidate.
The FTE for this role is negotiable between 0.2 and 0.5, with coverage required during days, nights, and weekends.

- Document assessments, plans, interventions, and evaluations daily in progress notes.
- Facilitate timely review and discharge planning, ensuring patients are discharged as soon as medically appropriate.
OR / Surgical Assist Responsibilities
- Provide surgical assist services in the operating room.
- Support preoperative preparation, including reviewing and displaying imaging, confirming equipment needs, ensuring appropriate room setup, and assisting with patient preparation.
- Apply dressings, postoperative splints/casts, and provide postoperative recovery support as indicated.
- Provide evening and weekend surgical assist coverage to all surgical programs at GNH.
