Position Overview:
Woodstock Hospital is seeking an experienced and visionary Chief of Psychiatry to lead our mental health services and drive excellence in psychiatric care. This is a senior leadership role, responsible for clinical oversight, strategic development, and quality improvement in psychiatric services. The successful candidate will be a passionate advocate for mental health, with a strong focus on patient-centred care, staff engagement, and system-level collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Department of Psychiatry.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership to develop and implement mental health initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
- Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in psychiatric care.
Clinical Oversight:
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to psychiatrists and interdisciplinary mental health teams.
- Participate in complex case reviews and provide direct clinical care as required.
Quality & Performance Improvement:
- Lead quality assurance initiatives, ensuring compliance with professional standards, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
- Monitor and improve clinical outcomes, patient safety, and service effectiveness.
- Champion initiatives that address mental health equity, access, and patient satisfaction.
Human Resources & Administration:
- Work collaboratively with the Senior Team.
- Recruit, retain, and evaluate psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.
- Support professional development and continuing education of staff.
- Collaborate with medical staff office and human resources on credentialing, performance reviews, and departmental planning.
- Represent department at Medical Advisory Committee and Medical Manpower Committee.
Collaboration & Partnerships:
- Liaise with community mental health partners, primary care providers, and regional health networks.
- Represent Woodstock Hospital on external committees and regional mental health initiatives.
- Build and strengthen partnerships with academic institutions for training and research.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with specialization in Psychiatry.
- Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) in Psychiatry.
- Licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
- Minimum 5–7 years of clinical experience in psychiatry, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or administrative role preferred.
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical care, team leadership, and program development.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Commitment to patient-centered care, diversity, and ethical practice.
