Community Information

The Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) is a free-standing integrated cancer treatment and research facility that functions as the tertiary oncology referral centre for Northern Alberta. It has a strong record of basic and translational research as well as clinical trial activity in oncology. The CCI is located within a five-minute walk from the U of A campus in Edmonton, Alberta and is the comprehensive cancer treatment and research facility serving the Edmonton and Northern Alberta region. The U of A’s Department of Oncology is located primarily at the CCI and has eight academic Divisions: Experimental Oncology, Medical Oncology, Medical Physics, Palliative Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Radiation Therapy, Oncologic Imaging, and Surgical Oncology. The close proximity of academic and clinical divisions within a single cancer care institution provides unique opportunities for the development of collaborative and clinically relevant research projects between discovery-based scientists, medical physicists and clinicians.
