Job Description

The Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, and Shared Health Manitoba invite applications for a full-time Epilepsy Neurologist in the Section of Neurology with sub-specialty training in Epilepsy and certification in EEG.

The successful recruit will have, within the University of Manitoba’s Section of Neurology, an academic appointment with flexibility of commencement at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, with responsibilities of teaching and mentoring.  The academic rank is dependent on the candidate’s current academic experience.  The section is one of 18 in the Department of Internal Medicine and has substantial resources within the health system, primarily at two academic health centres and one community-based hospital.  The faculty members form a section that includes a highly productive and internationally renowned research group and a strong residency training program or research and clinical practice.

The Adult Epilepsy Program in Winnipeg has a newly expanded 4-bed epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) with capacity for intracranial SEEG, serving a catchment area of over 1.5 million. We currently have a multidisciplinary team comprising of two adult epileptologists, two paediatric epileptologists, dual fellowship trained epilepsy and functional neurosurgeon and supported by neuropsychologists, nurse clinicians and EEG technologists. The epilepsy surgery program has modern operating rooms with new SEEG Robot (ROSA) and infrastructure for resective epilepsy surgeries and electrocorticography/intraoperative monitoring. The program offers vagal nerve stimulation with prospects for DBS surgery. Participation in urgent EEG and EMU calls would be expected. Participation in General Neurology call is not an expectation; however, accommodations can be made if there is interest.

Candidates must have specialty qualifications in Neurology in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Certification in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred. Candidates will have completed at least 1-year fellowship training in Epilepsy and EEG (including exposure to Stereoelectroencephalography and electrocorticography). Certification in EEG with CSCN or equivalent is required.

Qualified PRA candidates are encouraged to apply.

The City of Winnipeg (www.tourismwinnipeg.com), located where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet, is recognized for its vibrant, multicultural community and diverse culture. The city, with a growing population of more than 766,000, is home to internationally renowned festivals, galleries and museums, the historic Exchange District and The Forks, and ever-expanding research, education, and business sectors. From the Hudson Bay waters, across the farmland fields, to the pulse of the cities and towns, The Province of Manitoba’s (www.travelmanitoba.com) people and places – its 100,000 lakes, 92 provincial parks, winding river valleys and storied prairie skies – inspire.

The University of Manitoba is committed to the principles of equity, diversity & inclusion and to promoting opportunities in hiring, promotion and tenure (where applicable) for systemically marginalized groups who have been excluded from full participation at the University and the larger community including Indigenous Peoples, women, racialized persons, persons with disabilities and those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, questioning, intersex, asexual and other diverse sexual identities). All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.

The Rady Faculty of Health Sciences is committed to the social justice principles of equity, access & participation and to promoting opportunities in hiring, promotion and tenure (where applicable) for systemically marginalized groups who have been excluded from full participation at the University and the larger community including Indigenous Peoples, Black, racially marginalized communities, disabled persons and those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, questioning, intersex, asexual and other diverse sexual identities).

An inclusive, open and diverse community is essential to excellence and fosters voices that have been ignored or discouraged. To address the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences commitment to equity, access and participation, and in recognition of the underrepresentation of members of historically and currently excluded groups, we take proactive measures including implicit bias training for all hiring panels. We strive for diversity and cultural safety throughout the hiring process (hiring panels, short-list of candidates, interviews). The University acknowledges the potential impact that Career Interruptions and Personal Circumstances can have on an applicant's record of research achievement. Measures will be taken to ensure that these leaves will be taken into careful consideration during the evaluation process.

We encourage you to self-identity aspects of your identity that position you to bring currently under-represented viewpoints, expertise and forms of excellence to this role.

If you require accommodation supports during the recruitment process, please contact ***@umanitoba.ca (🔒 Premium) or***-***-**** (🔒 Premium). Please note this contact information is for accommodation reasons only.

Interested applicants should submit their application including curriculum vitae, a letter of intent, a personal statement on their contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion in your teaching, research, service and/or other experiences, and the names of contact information for three references (or three confidential letters of reference) and should be received no later than noon on December 31, 2025.
