Job Description
Covenant Health and the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta invites applications for the position of a Musculoskeletal Oncology and Arthroplasty Reconstruction Surgeon based primarily at Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Orthopaedic Oncology service is currently comprised of 2 surgeons, providing secondary and tertiary care services for the city of Edmonton, northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon Territories, and Nunavut. The primary practice site will be the Misericordia Community Hospital (MCH) with pediatric orthopaedic oncology at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, with privileges across the Edmonton Zone. Participation in regular orthopaedic call responsibilities is expected as well as providing periodic coverage to other zone responsibilities.
Candidates must have exemplary surgical skills and clinical judgment. Candidates are expected to participate in all aspects of the academic and clinical mission of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery including: collaborating with a multidisciplinary health care team including the regular participation in multidisciplinary sarcoma Rounds at the WW Cross Cancer Centre, involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, contribute to basic and/or clinical research and participate in administrative activities with re-evaluation every two years.
The successful candidate will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague appointment in the Department of Surgery, University of Alberta, which will be considered a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
Required:
· MD or equivalent,
· Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
· Certification in Orthopaedic Surgery with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
· Advanced fellowship training in Orthopaedic Oncology as well as hip & knee reconstruction.
· Demonstrated commitment to quality care, patient safety and DEI
· Understanding of Just Culture principles in healthcare.
Preferred:
· Advanced degree such as a Master’s or PhD is an asset.
