Job Description

Position Description:

Alberta Health Services is currently seeking the services of an independently licensed physician to assist in the management of medical inpatients in Orthopedics under the Surgery Division at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in the Edmonton Zone.

We are recruiting a physician to start as soon as possible. The successful applicant will provide scheduled service in Orthopedics under the Surgery Division at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Clinical responsibilities will include completing admissions, providing daily assessment and active management of inpatients, minor procedures and discharge summaries, under the direction of the Surgeon. Consults and teaching of medical students and residents is also required.  Surgical Hospitalists will be expected to work 4 to 6 shifts/month, shifts are Monday to Sunday, including weekends and holidays and are 11-12 hours long.

Qualifications & Experience:

Successful Candidates will have a functional knowledge of resources and challenges in Alberta’s primary health care system. This knowledge will be supported by the candidate having completed a two year Family Medicine Residency and by ongoing community primary care experience. Ideal applicants should have ACLS and experience in the clinical management of acute medical inpatients. 

We are particularly interested in candidates who have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and peer relationships. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of Family Medicine.

The successful candidate must be certified with the College of Family Physicians and of Canada and for medical licensure in the province of Alberta. This position is not eligible for Sponsorship through CPSA.
