Job Description

The University of Manitoba Department of Pediatrics & Child Health and Shared Health are inviting applications for an academic pediatrician to temporarily support the section of Pediatric Infectious Disease on a locum basis until June 2026.  The successful candidate will be expected to share responsibility for education in their section, as well as comprehensive clinical services provided at Health Sciences Centre Children’s Hospital. The referral base includes children from the province of Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and Western Nunavut.  Certification or eligibility for certification in medical microbiology would be an asset.

The University of Manitoba (UM), located in the multi-cultural and vibrant city of Winnipeg, is the province of Manitoba’s primary research-intensive academic institution, and offers over 100 degree, diploma and certificate programs to more than 30,000 students from around the world.

The Department of Pediatrics and Child Health is comprised of more than 100 geographical full-time physicians representing all Pediatric Subspecialties, and includes 7 full time PhD Scientists and over 150 other affiliated Faculty and Medical Staff Members. The Department of Pediatrics & Child Health and the Shared Health Child Health Program collaborate closely with the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba to improve the health and care for children in the province. The Section of Pediatric Infectious Disease is highly regarded for excellence in patient care, education and research with a focus on care to marginalized populations.  Outreach and social pediatrics are integral parts of the program that has a strong reputation for inter-disciplinary collaboration and patient-centered care.

Candidates must have specialty qualifications in pediatrics in the country of current practice, and must be eligible for specialty registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.  Certification in pediatrics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred.  The applicant will be expected to participate in the educational programs for undergraduate medical students and postgraduate pediatric residents. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is required and a commitment to collaborating with others in research and other scholarly endeavors is strongly encouraged.   Evidence of a high standard of professionalism is essential.

The University of Manitoba is committed to the principles of equity, diversity & inclusion and to promoting opportunities in hiring, promotion and tenure (where applicable) for systemically marginalized groups who have been excluded from full participation at the University and the larger community including Indigenous Peoples, women, racialized persons, persons with disabilities and those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, questioning, intersex, asexual and other diverse sexual identities). All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
