Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) in Alliston, Ontario, is seeking a locum general surgeon to join our dedicated surgical team. Serving the community of New Tecumseth and the surrounding areas for over 70 years, SMH is a well-established hospital with a strong commitment to providing high-quality healthcare.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in a broad range of general surgical procedures, including but not limited to: perianal surgeries, endoscopy/colonoscopy, appendectomy, hernia repair, cholecystectomy, and other acute care surgeries. There will also be opportunities to engage in colorectal and breast cancer care. This position offers home-call for on-call duties.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

-    weekend general surgery call coverage needed on an ongoing, intermittent basis

-    on call to emergency department regarding ACS cases

-    on call for endoscopy for example: food bolus obstruction, stable GI bleeding

-    rounding on inpatients (0-3 patients per weekend usual)

-    consultation on medical inpatients as needed

-    small hospital without ICU support- may require transfer of high acuity patients to larger centre via criticall

-    overall volume variable but generally: 1-4 emergency room consultations per weekend, 0-2 assistant cases (OB/GYNE), 0-2 surgical cases in OR per weekend, 0-3 inpatients to round on, 0-2 inpatient consultations from hospitalist

-    accommodation provided at a nearby resort with amenities like gym, pool, golf

-    compensation- billing, HOCC ($650/24 hours), stipend for covering as surgical assistant for OB/GYNE ($50/24 hours)

-    collegial atmosphere
