Located in the community of Alberton, Western Hospital is a vital health‑care centre serving the residents of western Prince Edward Island. Operated by Health PEI, the crown corporation responsible for delivering publicly funded health services across the province, Western Hospital plays an essential role in providing accessible, patient‑centered care to rural communities.
Western Hospital is a 25‑bed community hospital (23 medical beds and two palliative care beds) offering a 12-hour emergency department, inpatient, ambulatory, and palliative care services. The Emergency Department manages more than 11,000 patient visits annually, providing physicians with a varied and rewarding scope of practice. As a key rural facility within the provincial system, it provides a supportive and collaborative environment where physicians can practice broad‑scope medicine while contributing to high‑quality care close to home.
