Job Description

Alberta Health Services - North Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine Physician to establish a full-time practice in the community of Slave Lake. This position will provide services in Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, and Long-Term Care.

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of Slave Lake.
  • Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community.
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services.
  • Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including equal participation in the Emergency Department on call schedule, as required.
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine.
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.

Lesser Slave Lake is the largest lake within Alberta’s borders at 1,160 square kilometers, a beautiful place to live and work! While the town of Slave Lake supports the service hub of the region, with a trading area that features 21,000 people within a 120 km radius and offers an impressive selection of amenities, including hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, retailers, and community facilities. We have art and entertainment needs covered too with the Legacy Centre featuring a 450-seat theatre, this is the perfect venue for concerts and events throughout the entire year.

Slave Lake's economy is focused on resource extraction and processing, with a thriving oil and gas and forestry sector. The region boasts one of the most active oil and gas drilling areas in North America, the Marten Hills oil reservoir, which has seen production triple over the last three years. Mitsue Industrial Park (located 15 km east of Slave Lake) features four large mills and production facilities providing a variety of timber products to market; Slave Lake also serves as a transportation and logistics hub with a direct rail connection to Edmonton and excellent highway connectivity (Highway 2 and 88). 

The community and surrounding areas have a variety of fantastic options for educational resources and schooling systems (in both public and catholic), which house children from Kindergarten to Grade 12 as well Northern Lakes College. We look forward to seeing you in Slave Lake!
