The Opportunity
Our team of six General Surgeons is looking for a locum member to join them. The locum will cover the practice of our member on leave, including both inpatient responsibilities and outpatient elective practice. Inpatient responsibilities include participation in on-call coverage (one in six) and weeks of Acute Care Surgery. The outpatient elective practice consists of elective surgeries, scheduled endoscopies, and outpatient clinics. Procedures are conducted at PRHC and clinics are at the member-on-leave’s offsite office. American-trained physicians are encouraged to apply — we provide assistance with work permits if needed. All qualified candidates will be considered, but preference given to those with experience/interest in minimally invasive and/or acute care surgery. Remuneration is via fee-for-service billing to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Minimum expected annual earnings for a full-time practicing General Surgeon working at our hospital and in our region is more than $450,000. Benefits are not applicable for this position. Language of work is English. The following surgical specialties are represented in Peterborough: General Surgery, Gynecology, Ear Nose and Throat, Vascular, Orthopedics, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Maxillary facial/Dental and Urology. Support is also available from the following on-site non-surgical specialties: gastroenterology (including ERCP), diagnostic and interventional radiology, and general internal medicine and medicine subspecialties.

Position Qualifications:
•Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). A clear and viable pathway to licensure must be established at the time of application.
•Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or equivalent training (e.g., American Board Certification) and eligible for RCPSC assessment.
•Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing staff, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required
• Committed to a multi-disciplinary team approach
• Demonstrated analytical ability
• Has demonstrated an ability to encourage a spirit of co-operation amongst members
•Evidence of on-going continued medical education
