Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Part-Time or Full-Time Opportunity Available

The Mental Health and Addictions Department is seeking a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join a collaborative team of Psychiatrists providing care across our inpatient unit, Family and Youth Clinic, and Child and Adolescent Urgent Care Clinic. This role offers a dynamic mix of urgent and scheduled outpatient assessment and treatment, with opportunities to work within both the Urgent Care Clinic and the Family and Youth Clinic. The position also includes psychiatric consultation to the Pediatric (medical) Unit and shared coverage of the Inpatient Child and Adolescent Unit. This is a full-time or part-time opportunity, with the ability to tailor the role to areas of special clinical interest.
Our program values collaboration and maintains strong partnerships with local First Nations communities and the Peterborough Family Health Team. Experience or interest in providing assessment and treatment for adolescents with dual diagnosis would be an asset, supporting our Dual Diagnosis Community Consultation Program in partnership with CMHA and Tri- County Behavioural Services.
Practice Highlights
Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) has a extensive Child and Adolescent Mental Health Department which includes the following inpatient and outpatient services.
Inpatient Child and Youth Psychiatry Unit (CAPU) - 6 Beds
This is a specialized 6 bed inpatient unit that provides a safe place for the multidisciplinary team (Psychiatrists, Nurses, CYWs, Social Worker) to work together to provide comprehensive mental health assessment and acute stabilization for youth up to the age of 18 years. Family or guardians and other community service providers are involved throughout the inpatient stay.

Family and Youth Clinic – FYC
The Family and Youth Clinic is an outpatient program offering assessment and therapy for moderate to severe mental health presentations. The FYC offers family and individual treatment, group therapy, psychiatric consultation, urgent care, and eating disorder treatment and is supported by a multidisciplinary team of Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Psychologists, RNs, CYWs, and Dieticians.
Urgent Care Clinic for Children and Adolescents
The clinic provides urgent short–term mental health follow- up to youth and families following a visit to the Crisis Unit. Parents and youth can typically expect a phone call from the Urgent Care Team within three business days of the Crisis Unit visit. Referrals from a Pediatrician or a GP/NP are also accepted for youth who are experiencing urgent safety issues and/or sudden changes in functioning or mental status.
Eating Disorders Program
The Eating Disorders Team is made up of Social Workers, a Registered Dietician and Nurse Practitioners. Medical monitoring, nutritional counselling, and individual or group therapy are offered to clients with a diagnosed eating disorder across the lifespan. Psychiatry consultation is available with a referral from the Nurse Practitioner.
Position Qualifications
• Fellowship status with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or equivalent (e.g. American Board Certification)
• Currently registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or eligible to obtain registration
• Evidence of ongoing continued medical education
• Eligible for staff privileges at Peterborough Regional Health Centre
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing, allied health, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required
• Demonstrated interest in patient safety and quality improvement
