Job Description

LIVE AND THRIVE: MEDICINE AND COMMUNITY IN TRAIL, BC

In the heart of the Selkirk and Monashee Mountains, Trail is surrounded by crystal-clear lakes and lush forests that are home to a variety of wildlife. Together with nearby Rossland, these two towns provide abundant opportunities to raise families, forge lasting friendships within the community, and get involved locally. Here, you’ll find a fulfilling career and an extraordinary lifestyle that nourishes your soul.

In Trail and Rossland, winter adventures become a part of your everyday life; that’s the life you can have when you live near Red Mountain Resort, a key destination on British Columbia’s legendary Powder Highway. Just imagine gliding through fresh Kootenay snow and soaring down steep slopes, minutes away from your own front door.

You’ll find endless opportunities for outdoor adventure here. Hike Sunningdale or Miral Heights for breathtaking views. If you’re a mountain biker, you’ll love the singletrack trails; if you’re a water enthusiast, you’ll enjoy kayaking or paddleboarding on the numerous lakes that dot the landscape.

Hit the links at Birchbank, known for its sprawling greens, and jaw-dropping shifts in elevation. Challenge yourself at Champion Lakes’ vibrant fairways. Tee off at Redstone, where Les Furber’s artistic brilliance shines through, enhanced by striking rock formations, tranquil streams, glistening ponds, and immaculate white silica bunkers.

With spectacular landscapes and affordable real estate, you’ll find the ideal setting to establish your roots. Trail and Rossland are perfect for raising families, with wide open spaces and supportive communities. Come and see for yourself—we can’t wait to welcome you to our neighbourhoods!

VISIONARY CARE: CRAFTING YOUR CLINICAL PATH

Join the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) team in Trail, where your surgical expertise meets the unique healthcare needs of a diverse and active community. In this vital role, you will address a broad spectrum of surgical cases, reflecting the active lifestyles and diverse needs of our community members.

KBRH prides itself on fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. Our dedicated medical staff and comprehensive hospitalist service provide exceptional perioperative and clinical support. The position offers a multitude of patient-focused activities, ensuring a diverse and engaging practice. You will have access to 4 OR days and 4 endoscopy days per month, catering to a wide range of surgical needs.

Your foundational expertise in endoscopic procedures is crucial to our team. Besides your time at KBRH, your skills will be invaluable to Kootenay Lakes Hospital in Nelson, Castlegar and District Community Health Centre, Grand Forks’ Boundary District Hospital, Slocan Community Health Centre, and Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp. You will be instrumental in delivering high-quality care across the region.

Our close collaboration with the UBC Faculty of Medicine offers enriching opportunities to teach 3rd-year medical students. This integration allows you to seamlessly incorporate teaching into your schedule, providing a rewarding balance of professional development and significant contributions to clinical education.

Beyond molding the minds of tomorrow’s medical professionals, your involvement in projects centred around enhancing Physician Quality Improvement (PQI), supported by Doctors of BC, will allow you to drive real change. You’ll foster an environment of innovation and progress, making a significant impact on the community and the future of healthcare in Trail.

At KBRH, you’re not just joining a hospital; you’re becoming part of a community that values innovation, teamwork, and the continuous pursuit of excellence in patient care. Here, your capacity to make a difference extends beyond the operating room, shaping the future of healthcare in one of BC’s most picturesque and lively regions, ensuring our services remain comprehensive and responsive to the diverse needs of those we serve.

AT THE HEART OF CARE: KOOTENAY BOUNDARY REGIONAL HOSPITAL

With a steadfast commitment to the health and wellness of the 85,000 residents across the region, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) guarantees personalized and comprehensive care for each member of our community.

This breadth of services means we’re equipped to handle the most critical demands with precision and compassion, ensuring no need goes unmet.

Transitioning from emergency to specialized care, the expertise of our dedicated specialists encompasses areas like ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. Their knowledge and skills are pivotal, making them the cornerstone of our healthcare services and patient outcomes.

Central to our mission is the 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART), which highlights our role as the regional hub, offering expert care to critically ill and injured patients. This underscores our position as the key healthcare facility in the region, ready and equipped to tackle high-acuity cases with skill and care.

At KBRH, our identity goes beyond being a healthcare provider; we’re a community dedicated to medical excellence and compassionate care. We invite you to join us in this endeavor, making a meaningful impact on the lives we touch and contributing to a legacy of health and well-being.

SHAPE THE FUTURE OF HEALTHCARE: BEGIN YOUR LEGACY HERE

If you’re a resilient and analytical general surgeon, elevate your career at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, where your expertise can change lives. Apply today to live, work and play where others only vacation! It's better here!

Are you interested in practicing at KBRH, but prefer part-time hours? We warmly welcome your preference for balance and flexibility! We recognize the vital role of talented general surgeons, even on a part-time basis.
