Position Description:
To provide maternal-fetal medicine services and consultation within the New Brunswick. The provision of maternal-fetal medicine services will not require routine prenatal care, gynaecology services, labor and delivery or on-call rotations.

Job Duties:
To provide maternal-fetal medicine services including:
a) Consultation for:
· Multi-fetal pregnancy
· Suspected fetal abnormalities
· Prenatal screening for anatomic, genetic and chromosome abnormalities
· Diagnosis and treatment of women with complications of pregnancy
· Pre-existing medical conditions which may be impacted by the pregnancy
· Medical conditions which impact the pregnancy itself
· Genetic conditions which may affect the mother or the fetus, and
· Complex patient cases where assessment prior to conception or during pregnancy is necessary.
b) Performance of:
· Target ultrasound of the mother and fetus when fetal anomalies are suspected or complications of pregnancy arise, and
· Prenatal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as amniocentesis or CVS when indicated.
· To provide education to other health care providers and to participate in research activities related to obstetrics.
· To be available for maternal-fetal medicine consultation except during vacation.
· Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
· Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
· Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority's mission, values and strategic directions.
· Other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Department Head of Obstetrics/Gynaecology and/or the Chief of Maternal/Child Health.
Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday, 8-4, 37.5 hours/week
Remuneration:
Alternative Funding Plan (AFP)
Remuneration for the position is based on New Brunswick Medicare’s Alternate Funding Plan (AFP)
Qualifications:
- Certification for RCPSC, MD, FRCSC, MFM.
- Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.
- Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
- Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) appropriate to the category of practice.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
- Good attendance and work record.
- Physically able to perform assigned duties
Expected Start Date:
As soon as possible
Incentives:
$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service.
Relocation reimbursement of up to $8,000.
Other Requirements:
- Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, Community Health Centre Regulations, the Medical Services Payment Act and their regulations.
- Comply with the Health Authority bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures.
- Follow the Code of Ethics of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and the Canadian Medical Association.
About the Facility:
Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital (DECRH) is located in the city of Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick. This regional hospital is recognized as a centre of expertise for reconstructive and restorative medicine and a leading plastic surgery centre.
The DECRH provides undergraduate and graduate education experience for approximately 20 health disciplines and is a certified partner of the Dalhousie University Family Medicine program and the University of New Brunswick nursing program, and houses the Veterans Health Unit.
A $250 million project to provide a state-of-the-art environment for maternal and newborn, intensive care, surgical care, day surgery, ambulatory procedures, phlebotomy, and health records service is underway (project schedule spans August 2016 to March 2024).
Recent achievements at this facility include increased capacity on 4 West, completion of an Emergency Risk Assessment review to reduce workplace violence and a Recreation Therapy Responsive Behaviours project.
